Politico named Putin among the biggest losers of the year, and it's true: Ukraine held back Russian attacks; the goals of the "special military operation" were not reached; seized a piece of the Russian Kursk region and continues holding it; Russian economy is in crisis; Putin lost his foothold in Syria and had to apologize for Russia shooting down a civilian aircraft. The myth of the "second army in the world" is gone for good: Russia had to ask North Korea for shells and soldiers. Russian labor shortage is deepening, so Russia is looking for workers in Africa and Asia.
A rat in a corner is the most dangerous. It is very important for Putin to look and feel like a winner. So he continues terrorizing Ukraine with more and more strikes and threaten not just Kyiv but the whole West with Oreshnik attacks. Putin doesn't care about human losses and how his people live. Putin wants to go down in history as the great "gatherer of Russian lands" at whatever cost. He wants one thing - to stay in power.
Putin is not waging the war with just Ukraine - he is fighting the West and NATO. He sees that the West is afraid of decisive actions, there is no unity and no real readiness to face the challenges. Russia is allowed to earn money for the war using its shadow fleet. Sanctions are working but they allow for loopholes and they are not strong enough. Ukraine is given enough support not to lose but definitely not enough to win. Provocations and sabotage of NATO countries are conveniently overlooked.
What conclusions will Russia draw from this? That the West is weak and Russia has the upper hand. Putin sees no point in negotiations and ending the war because he is certain he can get anything he wants.
And this is a recipe for an upcoming global disaster. Can it still be stopped? I hope so. Ukraine has bought the West time - with our lives and blood. We are not martyrs. We do not want to sacrifice ourselves. We want peace and justice and security.
Time for a wakeup call. Time to truly make Putin the biggest loser.

Wir stehen hier, an der Schwelle zum Kalenderjahr 2025

The President of Georgia Salome Zourabichvili left the presidential residence in Tbilisi after the inauguration of the new president. However, she stated that she would continue the fight. In a briefing, she said she would work on creating the document for scheduling new elections. The document will be ready in a few days.
We too often fail when we cannot take a united, strong position at a turning point. Now is the decline of Georgian democracy. Only new free elections can resolve this crisis. We must clearly support the President of Georgia in her efforts to keep the country on the European path.
A map of hybrid attacks tied to Russia (2022–Nov 2024):
•critical infrastructure
•violence
•weaponised migration
•Election meddling
Let’s aim for 2025 to shift from “expressing concern” to delivering an “effective response.”
Andrei Kotov, the organiser of tours for gay men, was found dead in a Moscow jail where he was awaiting trial on a charge of "extremism". Authorities claimed he committed suicide.
#Georgia urgently needs a way out of the crisis.
In our joint statement with Nordic-Baltic 🇩🇰🇪🇪🇫🇮🇮🇸🇱🇹🇱🇻🇳🇴🇸🇪 foreign ministers, we urge Georgian authorities to take immediate steps in this direction, including by implementing #OSCE electoral recommendations & considering the possibility of new elections.

Just another day in a "traditional" European democracy where no one can take the "dream party" seriously, and a person, only elected and acknowledged by his own party, is inaugurated in a semi-secret ceremony.
Georgia must either be redefining democracy or skipping the whole parliament and president thing altogether.
BREAKING: Azerbaijan Officially Accuses Russia of Downing Plane
The plane that crashed in Aktau was damaged «as a result of ground fire,» Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated.
«The facts are that the Azerbaijani plane sustained external damage over Russian territory, near the city of Grozny, and practically lost control. Our plane was rendered uncontrollable by electronic warfare systems. This was the first damage inflicted on the aircraft,» he said.
«One of the moments that saddened and surprised us was the fact that Russian official bodies proposed theories about the explosion of some gas cylinder. This clearly demonstrated that the Russian side wanted to cover up the issue, which, of course, does no credit to anyone.»
Stressing that the plane was not deliberately shot down, Aliyev said, «Admitting guilt, promptly apologizing to Azerbaijan, a country considered friendly, and communicating this to the public — these were the necessary measures and steps that should have been taken.»
«Unfortunately, during the first three days, all we heard from Russia were absurd versions,» Aliyev concluded.
