Get on the F—-ing plane.
That’s it. It’s not that hard.
When I worked at a Fortune 500 company, I wanted to move Texas from DC. So I got on a plane and started attending monthly meetings in Texas as if I was part of the Texas team.
No one had done that before. People would email and call about wanting to move, but no one would ever just show up. I showed up twice and it blew away.
Fast-forward 5 years later and I wanted to move to New York. They said “At your level of seniority, these kinds of decisions take at least 1.5 years.” I got on a plane, flew out to NYC, and in 1.5 weeks the decision was made.
If you want something, show up. Getting on the plane puts you in the top 1%.
Go beyond what others will do.
