I don't really understand the outrage around pronouns.

We've used preferred titles (Mr./ Mrs./ Ms./ Dr./ Rev. / Professor/ etc.) for as long as anyone's been alive. It's just a matter of common courtesy and respect for others.

Disrespect and meanness seems to be the point here.
