having criticisms of iwtvl is being like "i found this writing decision cheap/lazy/misogynistic/antiblack/ooc/etc" and having people hop on your tweet like "oh so you think FICTIONAL CHARACTERS can't have FLAWS? you think MEDIA shouldn't make you UNCOMFORTABLE?"
this is why rolin made sure to release the pre-excuse of “if you hate tvl you hate sam reid and daniel” so that the sam boymoms will act like any critique against lestat is bullying sam bcos of those BOOK fans who hated him in s1 and to ensure daniel has plausible deniability
fans of iwtv have always been racist and abuse apologetic but based on what i’ve seen recently it seems as though this season has emboldened them to be even louder about their views so what does that say about the writing choices…
the thing is, at least for book lestat, him “dying” and the whole trial was like a factory reset for him where he went, “yeah i’m low-key proud they tried to kill me i deserved that shit” and i’m not getting that vibe from s3 lestat AT ALL and it’s making the show less enjoyable
Like Black people in fandoms don’t get enough shit, you all ignore actual criticism to speak condescendingly to Black people over issues that don’t exist. It’s tired, it keeps happening and people keep falling for it cause look at those likes
I’m harping on it but I hate when fandoms manufacture discourse so they can get hit tweets that eventually lead Black viewers receiving hate. Esp since Akasha is used in Black fandom art ALL THE TIME. Ignoring REAL complaints of antiBlackness to do this bullshit is annoying
more like you intentionally misrepresented a tweet about how antiblack the fandom is + tvl’s writing intentionally validating the fandom’s antiblackness and trying to reverse psych it by saying “you just want it white” so YOU can consume this whitewashed season without pushback
This season also rly isn't following the books *at all* either. Ppl are just trying to silence any criticism.
Which is crazy bcuz how is this season's massive quality drop not a kick in the face to every fan of the show?? Esp Lestat fans?? How is this the hill to die on??
irritating that now when you give criticisms, people respond with “you have to read the books to understand/appreciate it”. If I have to read the books as supplemental material to understand the show when I haven’t had to do that for previous seasons, maybe there’s an issue #tvl
y'all don't have to pretend you care about black characters being allowed to be portrayed as evil, especially when you can't even handle non-black characters being called out for their abusive actions without writing dissertations and invent new abuse apologia to excuse them
black characters are not afforded a fraction of the nuance & empathy that nonblack characters are given. there's an ocean between how "evil" white characters and "evil" black characters are treated
even in the Morally Grey Show, somehow the black character is still The Most Bad
People on iwtvtwt are saying Akasha and black characters should be allowed to be evil and I've yet to see *any* popular post arguing that Akasha/black characters being evil is racist and shouldn't happen. It's almost as if they're generating fake discourse to bash black ppl.
let characters of color be problematic doesn’t negate the racial issue in how the show frames the problematic behavior where the characters of color have their flaws judged more harshly or their victimization get minimized
tvc are a love song to white supremacy but book fans hate acknowledging it.
It's not smthing I think Anne was conscious of herself either which makes it worse
louis being self hating and calling out his faults (real and perceived) would be fine except for that he’s the only character who does that right now…in order to apologize to his abuser, who still hasn’t apologized to him. not the first time the writers have made louis do that!
