@KT_Carlisle This is a big part of why I've decided to go the indie route with my debut trilogy. I've read enough about stories dying on sub. When you add that to the stats you shared, I'm only ever going to resume querying a standalone much further down the road.
Received amazing developmental editing feedback. It's a tad overwhelming and making my head hurt slightly, but I'm grateful. I do think that if I can pull off many of the suggestions, this project will absolutely benefit. #amediting#amrevising#WritingCommunity
@MagicalHippo For my current project, the next step is a successful launch by the end of the year that lands me on bestseller lists. Hopeful my WIP will get me offers of rep. Whichever of those things happens first, I'm celebrating with very peaty Scotch and an expensive restaurant visit.
@MagicalHippo I'm always in awe of anyone who writes even a sentence every day. Full time work really takes a toll on my energy level, physically and creatively. Trying to find a sustainable rhythm, but it's not been easy. π
Gonna spend the next 2 weeks letting my mind rest, while also working on the project I plan to query next. May have more luck with it purely because it's a true "standalone w/series potential" work.
AND I think I'll drop into Skyrim because I miss it. β€οΈ I miss all my games.
I'm sick AGAIN. Seems like half the country is, with colds or flu or Covid. Mine feels like a bad cold, but who knows. On the upside, it feels nice to have sent my manuscript off to an editor I'm excited about, as I prepare to self-pub it. It's happening. π #WritingCommmunity
I'd already been in the mindset that I'm going to self-publish this specific project. The recent pass on a full and a pass on a partial have made me more certain that that's the path for this particular thing. But man, am I TIREDβ’οΈ
The confluence of factors and conditions in publishing right now makes it easier to understand why things are so difficult for querying writers. It's still frustrating to think that had I set out to do this a decade ago, I might've had more luck.
@MagicalHippo Just got a pass on a full request I was hopeful about, so, I hear you. Starting to make plans to self-publish this particular project. It may have been doomed from the start because it's absolutely not a "standalone w/series potential." I'll query my other thing when it's ready.
Got selections from BLOODBORNE playing while I plot and draft my WIP. The perfect balance of exhilarating and unsettling. *chef's kiss* #WritingCommunity#amdrafting
Monteriggioni is one of Italy's few surviving mediaeval walled towns, nestling in SW Chianti, in the heart of Tuscany. As you can see, its walls are incredibly intact & offer a glimpse of life in most of Europe's towns in the Middle Ages.
Haven't made The Decision yet. I'm waiting on more replies, but I'm not dragging things out for this story much longer. I need it out in the world, and I'm willing to put in the elbow grease to get it there.
I've still got fulls, a partial, and some queries out. But I'm really starting to consider self-publishing more seriously, at least on this particular project. Standalones still seem to be reigning as far as (most) debut authors go. That's not gonna work for this story.--
I'm not interested in sacrificing the narrative structure to squeeze it all in one book. This is a perennial complaint, I realize, but no less critical for me. I'm actually very keen to develop a whole presence for this project. Not afraid of hard work, just lost time.--
Listening to the UNSOLVED MYSTERIES theme again after years and years. Very Millennial of me, maybe, but I can definitely say that that show is partly why I write what I write. The theme song paired with Robert Stack's eerie narration still chills me.
Just finished AMERICAN PRIMEVAL. Incredibly bleak, but I actually loved that about it. Haven't binged a show like that since Netflix's KINGDOM, which absolutely deserves a third season, but that's another discussion.
