@it_was_my_cat @TheRealJekyl You cannot tell that saying “t |æ| co” is closer to the actual pronunciation than “tahco/tawco.”
The only difference between the American and Mexican pronunciation is the hard t and the “o” being slightly longer, but Brits do the same PLUS they use |æ|. “Ah” is the right vowel

I feel like Jerry's comment about Myha'la not wearing makeup being suspicious is a prime example of Brits not catching American humor because she was 100000% making a joke #celebritytraitors

[Mid Bin | Jorja @cabagpatch]

@serotoninlor you are clearly unfamiliar with the british sense of pride in suffering

[Mid Bin | Jorja @cabagpatch]

@jwanmybeloved For some of the recipes I think people just like garlic. Like one of my favorite creamy garlic pasta dishes uses two whole heads of roasted garlic. But 75 is CRAZY

Brits in the ibuprofen discourse

@arcuaria @katelyndshaw It seems to be that paracetamol abuse is more prevalent in the UK and Ireland than in a lot of places actually. https://t.co/PlbVV3vWpF

[Mid Bin | Jorja @cabagpatch]

@arcuaria @katelyndshaw I think you're right about intention, but if you look at per capita overdoses due to paracetamol use, the UK has a far higher rate (based off numbers from the National Institutes of Health)

[Mid Bin | Jorja @cabagpatch]

@katelyndshaw @arcuaria In their defense, the UK has a much higher rate of people using over the counter meds like tylenol and advil to OD.

[Mid Bin | Jorja @cabagpatch]

"Kelly Clarkson has put us all in danger" and it's just her buying a 500ct bottle of ibuprofen

[Mid Bin | Jorja @cabagpatch]

@arcuaria @katelyndshaw In terms of safety, ODing on paracetamol and ibuprofen is actually far more common in the UK than it is in the US. Probably because it's easier for people to do so with other means, but at least in the US, the bottle size doesn't seem to be a contributing factor in our OD rates

[Mid Bin | Jorja @cabagpatch]

@arcuaria @katelyndshaw I think the key difference being that when you really need ibuprofen, you tend to not feel up to going and getting it, whereas going out to buy bread is just a bit of an inconvenience.

[Mid Bin | Jorja @cabagpatch]

@ifkate If you have two women in your household with severe period pain, that's easily 16 doses per month, which would be 192 for just one year

[Mid Bin | Jorja @cabagpatch]

@ifkate You definitely have to be careful with ibuprofen dosing, but it has a shelf-life of up to 5 years. I don't think it's insane that a family of 4 might use 500 pills over that timeframe. (That would mean 1 dose (2 pills), per person, per month)

[Mid Bin | Jorja @cabagpatch]

The ibuprofen discourse also reflects the British glorification and moralization of personal suffering, but we don't need to get into that

[Mid Bin | Jorja @cabagpatch]

@arcuaria @katelyndshaw I feel like people are picturing the bottles for one person used in a week, rather than as a household resource used over several years by several people. It's just a convenience thing. No one NEEDS it, but it's nice not to have to pick it up every other time you go to the store

[Mid Bin | Jorja @cabagpatch]

that's not what "art is political" means...

[Kaos @ItzKaosSzn]

Explain the politics of AC/DC.

Like. Any song. Your choice.

[Mid Bin | Jorja @cabagpatch]

the ibuprofen discourse is crazy to me because I feel like everyone is neglecting that it has a shelf-life of up to 5 years. I don't think it's insane that a family of 4 might use 500 pills over that timeframe. (That would mean 1 dose, per person, per month)

[Mid Bin | Jorja @cabagpatch]

@vivthelesbian @hotglassofskank I almost always have some kind of OTC medicine that I bring back for myself or friends

[Mid Bin | Jorja @cabagpatch]

@vivthelesbian @hotglassofskank My mom lived here before I did, so she made sure I brought bulk my allergy meds and advil before I came so I wouldn't have to deal with it

[Mid Bin | Jorja @cabagpatch]

@landospringroll @QU4DVERSE Ironically, the UK has a far higher rate of overdose on over-the-counter painkillers like ibuprofen and paracetamol than the US. Although it's probably because Americans have greater access to stronger substances which "work" more effectively.
