Smart uniforms, hats and white gloves were all part of the job for these young women who acted as Brighton’s seafront hostesses. The film shows them out on the promenade, chatting to visitors, helping families and giving directions.

They were essentially Brighton’s welcoming committee, making sure the thousands of holidaymakers arriving at one of Britain’s most popular seaside resorts knew where to go and what to see.
