If I Go Will They Miss Me immediately skyrockets into the Black cinema pantheon. Not to mention it being one of the best films of 2026. Truly a well-rounded masterpiece with so much to say. Such impactful themes on the Black experience, mainly focused on family/community, breaking generational curses, and fatherhood. Just in general this is a technical juggernaut. Cinematography? Drop-dead gorgeous! Score? moving to the core! Acting performances? Incredible! Everyone balled out but the leading duo of J. Alphonse Nicholson and Danielle Brooks set the tone from the jump. Walter Thompson-Hernández and co, take a bow!

On September 15, 2001, Balbir Singh Sodhi was planting flowers outside his Arizona gas station when Frank Roque pulled up and fatally shot him. Roque wanted revenge for 9/11 and mistook Sodhi, a Sikh man, for a Muslim because of his turban.

Sodhi became the first person killed in a post-9/11 retaliatory hate crime, marking the beginning of a devastating wave of violence against Muslims, Sikhs, Arabs, South Asians, and other brown Americans.
