At 10:24 AM, we crossed the border into the Yukon. Canada. It was raining. Oliver and Tuti did not want to stop. I insisted. We pulled over and took photos at the border sign. Some moments need to be documented even when the weather disagrees. Country #2. Second of many.

At the border we met a motorcycle rider heading into Alaska. He told us he had planned this trip at a campfire in Iowa, in 1978 or 1979. Forty-plus years from idea to road. We had been at it for five years and thought that was a long time.

Back at camp, Mateo drove the Tesla for the first time. My rule for the whole trip: I drive Taz. Alaska to Ushuaia. I only hand the keys to someone else on a road I've already covered. This was one of those cases. Mateo pressed the accelerator and learned what everyone learns the first time in a Tesla: the torque is immediate. More than they expected.

That evening, the Braun family hosted us for an asado. Lorena and Micky had already taken us sailing and shown us a whale. Now they were cooking meat in Alaska.

For Uruguayans and Argentines, an asado is how you celebrate, how you say goodbye, how you mark something that matters. Mateo has a habit wherever he travels: he hides tiny VW Beetles — miniature toy cars left in corners and shelves for someone to find later. Micky happened to own a real one, a dark red classic convertible parked outside next to Taz. He decided the best tribute was to give Micky the miniature version. The two of them holding their Beetles in Micky's kitchen is one of the great images from that night.

So we did it! We drove two electric cars, @Tesla, from Anchorage (Alaska) to Ushuaia (Tierra del Fuego)! We just wanted to prove it was possible, and it is. It’s not easy yet, but soon this will be “normal”. @Electr_Americas

So we finally crossed the Strait of Magellan, a landmark of our expedition. Wind & cold weather made us stop for charging so that we could reach our destination for today: Rio Grande, Tierea del Fuego.
