In 1934, by order of Reich Chancellor Adolf Hitler, a new court system was created to replace the traditional court system, the Reich Court of Justice (Reichsgericht).

Hitler was dissatisfied with the outcome of the Reichstag fire trial in which all but one of the defendants were acquitted, and other legal setbacks as he sought to consolidate power.

Hitler handpicked the judges and created a new court system with jurisdiction over a broad array of "political offenses", which included crimes like black marketeering, work slowdowns, defeatism, and treason against Nazi Germany.

The courts were based on "Fuhrerprinzip," translated it literally means: "His word is above all written law."
