Pero, según la prensa mexicana, la realidad fue muy distinta.

Nunca logró consolidarse con ninguno de los entrenadores que tuvo en Pumas y terminó saliendo sin demostrar el nivel con el que llegó. Después tampoco pudo ser titular indiscutible en Australia.

¿Fue la adaptación al fútbol mexicano? ¿La altura? ¿La comida? ¿Estar solo y lejos de su familia desde muy joven? ¿O simplemente no alcanzó el nivel que se esperaba?

La gran pregunta que deja su paso por Pumas es si el cartel con el que se vendió a Piero Quispe fue demasiado grande para lo que realmente había demostrado fuera del fútbol peruano.
