Any company can say that they are 100% compliant with regulation, it is NEMAs job to validate, monitor and license accordingly

Because NEMA are still grappling with devolving their functions, it is important to link with county execs on environment. But even this interaction shows there are so many gaps in implementing/ follow up on environmental regulation in this country. #athiriver

The point @NemaKenya is that this has been going on for a while. It is not one day of polluting that has brought us to this point. How did you license these companies? According to EMCA aren’t you supposed to conduct continuous assessments? How did we get here?? #athiriver

Reported a case of harmful air pollution in Imara Diama estate last week. Causing coughing, respiratory symptoms and headaches. Someone promised they'll get in touch with us ... but still no response from @NemaKenya

The question is with all the extensive regulation in place, how did they pollute in the first place? This has been persistent and not a one off occurrence.

Took these images today from our farm that the Athi River passes through. The river has become completely uninhabitable for fish. It is shocking that @NemaKenya allows companies to pollute to this extent.
