Really cool to have seen, from idea to final product, how @Mebane_Rash@EducationNC taps into the ideas of education visionaries @educatingeorge@twinologist@FreebirdsShire in order to shine light all over NC. Caroline Parker and her team did great justice to that vision.
Once upon a time, at dinner in Feb. 2018 with @caesarciv @twinologist @FreebirdsShire, the idea of telling the story of Clay County and the strength of our rural places, the story of schools and churches as anchor institutions in our communities surfaced.
Today is my last day as the 2019 @BWFUND NC TOY! What an exciting, meaningful, and at times crazy year this has been. If I had the privilege of connecting with you this past year: thank you. I am infinitely richer in friendship after this past year, and I thank you for that gift.
On behalf of the whole Lee County family, I'm spotlighting AJ BOULWARE, headed to @Monroe_Mustangs in NY. One of NC's most accomplished running backs during these past two years - he's rooted in family, humility, maturity & a relentless work ethic. Congrats, AJ! #LCSDECISIONDAY
Thank you @EducationNC for giving us a platform, to @southappalachia (‘20 RTOY Dawn Gilchrist) for leading the charge, and to ‘20 RTOY Chad Beam for his moving testimony. Most importantly, thank you to all classified staff out there who continue to serve children of NC. #nctoypoy
“From administrators to custodians to faculty, we are responsible to our legislature, to our communities, to our parents, and most of all, to our children.” @caesarciv @dawngilc https://t.co/1L8UafB87X
Marianne Leek (RTOY ‘07) from @TheHHSSwarm is at it again with a moving piece in @BitterSouth. Great job giving big voice to the (iconically laconic) westernmost part of N.C. https://t.co/IlZcbsfFiW @chuckreese#nctoypoy
Grateful to have such hardworking teachers in our state who are adapting to this unprecedented time & continuing to give our students a quality education.
“We’re putting our best foot forward even as we march into uncharted territory, and we’re doing it together.” @caesarciv@southappalachia https://t.co/WIzWXiAOw5
At a #COVID19NC meeting on Monday:
Principal: Our cafeterias in the county will be providing meals to anyone who needs food on Tuesday and Wednesday, then delivering by bus after that.
Teacher: Do people need proof of need?
Principal: No-- this is for anyone who's hungry.
@Morristeach1 Our district and school admins in Clay County are working very, very hard to make sure that we have the tools to facilitate learning. Our techs are making sure WiFi spans the parking lot. Custodians are ubiquitously cleaning. Cafeteria workers are candidates for sainthood.
Ed Leaders: There is a moral imperative here that supersedes all else, and it is not student learning. So we teachers promise to work hard as always, but mandating that we do that hard work on campus is imprudent. 1/2 #nced@MarkRJohnsonNC#nctoypoy@DrBradJohnson
The Danes visiting HHS & @asheville@BiltmoreEstate. Bringing global perspective re: income inequality and historical parallels, plus insightful discussion about math pedagogy alongside @TheHHSSwarm@MsThompsonMath class.
Thank you @Morristeach1 and @amays_bwfund for the opportunity to represent our students, classrooms, colleagues, and communities today with the candidates for N.C. Superintendent of Public Instruction #nctoypoy#EdfromtheEDGE
Powerful piece that’s all the more pertinent for educators trying to accurately gauge and adapt to the landscape of our students’ lives. Thank you (as always) @nytdavidbrooks https://t.co/gkmhr5ewfJ
