“Sustaining SRHR progress requires more than celebrating what has been achieved. It requires continued collaboration, innovation, domestic financing and meaningful engagement of young people as partners, not just beneficiaries.
As the development landscape evolves, we must strengthen local institutions, youth-led initiatives and community systems, while continuing to invest in evidence-based approaches that can be sustained and scaled.
The question is no longer only What did the project achieve but How do we ensure those gains continue to benefit future generations.” Ms Brenda Mwinga, Capacity Strengthening Programs Officer @hivos
“As implementing partners, we have learnt that no single organisation can address the SRHR needs of young people alone. The progress we celebrate today has been made possible through partnerships involving civil society organisations, government, communities, young people, development partners, service providers and many others.
We therefore wish to recognise and appreciate the support of @hivos , @CafeSRHR, and SIDA whose partnership and investment have enabled this work to take place.” @NamubiruZula Chair Boar, PSD
Today we join @Togetheraliv and partners for the National SRHR Impact and Learning Forum to Celebrating Impact, Strengthening Partnership and Shaping the Future of SRHR in Uganda hosted at Imperial Royal Hotel-Kampala

Sometimes you get into a space and realise you have to learn things you never thought you needed to know. For me, it was the budget.
I went from not understanding what a budget really was to reading it, questioning allocations and advocating for better investment in health and HIV services. Along the way, I also learned that advocacy starts with knowing your rights and being able to speak for yourself.
As a young person with a disability, I have learned not to let stigma or other people’s attitudes define what I can do or what I deserve.

One of the biggest things I have learned is the importance of speaking for myself.
I can access health services. I can make decisions about my body. I can choose family planning. I can have children. I can participate in budgeting and advocacy. I have rights, just like everyone else.
Understanding budgets gave me the knowledge to advocate for better services, but understanding my rights gave me the confidence to use my voice. And now, I want other young people to know that their voices matter too.

We have given young people the skills, not just for themselves, but so they can use those skills to support others and break the stigma.
We go to schools, create awareness, teach them how to handle situations when they face challenges with their parents, and how to support others who may be going through similar situations.

Highly level panel Discussion—Sustaining SRHR project gains beyond donor funding.
🎙️@lafuente_lau, Programme coordinator, Youth and Gender @UNFPAUganda
Sustaining SRHR gains beyond donor funding requires more than asking for bigger budgets. We must hold institutions accountable for the resources already allocated, strengthen coordination, invest in systems and build meaningful partnerships with the private sector. The focus should be on spending well, delivering results and creating lasting impact.

“Young people must be more than beneficiaries of SRHR programmes, they must be leaders,decision-makers and champions of change. The Regional SRHR Fund has invested in strengthening young people and youth organisations to promote and defend their sexual and reproductive health rights, influence decision-makers,generate evidence and advocate for gender-responsive policies and guidelines.” Ms Mwiinga Brenda, Capacity Strengthening Program Officer @hivos
