Write it on your heart
by Ralph Waldo Emerson
Write it on your heart
that every day is the best day in the year.
He is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day
who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety.
Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities, no doubt crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can, tomorrow is a new day;
begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit
to be cumbered with your old nonsense.
This new day is too dear,
with its hopes and invitations,
to waste a moment on the yesterdays.
I find myself leaning more towards imperfections in recordings now because of the existence of AI. Mistakes, finger-fowls and wild vocal takes just feel so much more valuable now. Before, somehow everyone was seeking sonic conformity, and now it seems like weโre seeking things that sound human.
unironically believe โthe boys are back in townโ is one of the best example of good songwriting
the song begins in medias res. it presumes the listener already knows about the boys and the town
also everyone can relate to the song. everyone knows boys who leave town and return
still insane to me that a 1967 david mccallum track is responsible for one of the hardest hip hop beats. genuinely one of those "oh! no way!" moments when you first hear it
