Current “State of play” on Liverpool’s midfield situation:
Lamine Camara: Liverpool held a meeting with Camara & his reps before the start of the world cup. Newcastle also held talks with his reps. Liverpool remain relaxed about the situation with Camara understood to be keen on the move.
Ayyoub Bouaddi: Liverpool have been in constant contact with him for close to a year and are willing to offer what Lille are asking. Arsenal have also been in contact with his camp for a long time and are preparing an official approach after the world cup.
Adam Wharton: Wharton has been on the club’s radar for some time and is still highly regarded however from what i understand unless Crystal Palace lower their demands Liverpool won’t make a move for him this summer.
Chema Andres: Andoni Iraola is believed to be a big admirer of the player, I’ve been told to keep an eye on this.
My understanding is that Liverpool were initially planning to bring in at least 2 new midfielders this summer but it will depend on departures.

#LFC & Recruitment: Óscar Mingueza = Pygmalion
Since Trent Alexander-Arnold left Liverpool in summer 2025, Liverpool has been staging a Thursday matinee of Pygmalion at right-back. The old #IntelligentEngine could not be remade from one block, so the club tried to carve it from two: Conor Bradley for force, Jeremie Frimpong for flight.
Bradley was the homegrown form: a proper right-back with thrust. A very Liverpool archetype. Strong in defensive actions: 3.10 ground duels won per 90, 1.45 aerial duels won and 5.51 recoveries. Movement on top: 1.93 progressive receptions, 2.22 progressive carries and 5.50 final-third entries. But his passing falls short: 2.41 progressive passes, 8.40 forward passes and 4.15 passes into the final third. You can see the idea: academy-made, real purpose, enough range to shine. The missing piece is the ability to dictate games from right-back zones.
Frimpong was the flight: the attacking right-back as receiving runner. His movement is the headline: 4.94 progressive receptions, 4.24 progressive carries and 3.90 final-third entries. The defensive work gives him just enough drive on the way back home: 2.22 defensive ground duels won, 0.52 aerial duels won and 5.49 recoveries. But his passing cannot shape the role: 1.91 progressive passes, 5.80 forward passes and 1.91 passes into the final third. The appeal is obvious. So is the ceiling. Try describing Frimpong without using the word ‘pace’.
Then the right-backs broke. Frimpong down. Bradley down until 2027. What began as Pygmalion became play-dough: midfielders and centre-backs taking turns at right-back, the position remoulded from clumps every week. At some point, sculpture becomes arts and crafts.
The need is now. Óscar Mingueza is that guy. He's not Trent reborn. Not the statue coming to life. The market does not have the original. It has the closest rendition.
Mingueza is the composite right-back: serious create, usable regain, enough carry. The deep progression is the sell: 6.68 progressive passes per 90 (TAA: 6.86), 14.78 forward passes (TAA: 13.88) and 5.12 passes into the final third (TAA: 5.93). The regain numbers hold: 1.67 ground duels won (CB: 3.10), 0.56 aerial duels won (CB: 1.45) and 4.24 recoveries (CB: 5.51). The carry data keeps the outline alive: 2.24 progressive receptions (JF: 4.94), 1.46 progressive carries (JF: 4.24) and 6.36 final-third entries (JF: 3.90). Mingueza is not a Trent-level assist weapon, but the long-range passing stands up: 2.33 long passes per 90 at 48.6% completion (TAA: 44.6%). That is Liverpool’s Pygmalion answer.
If Mingueza is available on a free, sign him. Not as nostalgia. Not as a tribute act. As squad architecture. Peak age. No fee. Immediate function, with the calm and availability Jacquet or Leoni would need beside them at full-back. Bradley can recover without being rushed.
Because Liverpool does not need the statue. It needs the shape.
@Gi_Varotti@livfcbr Ele mesmo. Acho improvável, mas trocar um jogador que tá sendo ventilado por 70m por um de graça não me parece mau negócio, pensando nas características dos dois
[🟢] NEW: “As far as Adam Wharton is concerned, there is some appreciation there from Liverpool, but it’s not moving, as it stands, and it would be a surprise if Liverpool enter the race for him. They are looking for a midfielder but at this stage, nothing is moving between Liverpool and Wharton.”
