"Trust is hard-earned, easy to lose, and quite essential for a healthy democracy."
In a new @TheHillTimes oped, @sung_vanessa and @caitfowler43 discussed new findings that show Canadians strongly value evidence as a policy input, and what this means for democracy.🔒

Ever wondered why a government decision was made? Or doubted a product claim you saw in a commercial? Whether you want to better understand policy decisions, or verify a far-fetched claim in an ad, good #EvidenceMatters! 1/4
One of the best things about working @HubOttawa is being surrounded by amazing neighbours! We had a great time meeting @cmckenney @NSaravanamuttoo @City_SHAPES this morning to chat about our shared goals around transparency in policy-making. Looking forward to more conversations!
@E4Dca just released a new report written by myself, @this_is_farah, and @sung_vanessa! Check out a short summary in this thread and click the link to read the (slightly longer) report 🤓🤓https://t.co/4fGBKMVd37
📢 We’re back with a new #EyesOnEvidence report!
We went directly to policy-makers to learn why the evidence behind policy decisions is so hard to find. Our What We Heard report shares insights from federal & provincial discussions on transparency: https://t.co/dkVjgylvqK 🧵1/8
With the PM set to testify today at the Emergencies Act hearings, everyone's minds are on government transparency. Check out the @NatObserver OpEd I wrote with @this_is_farah and @sung_vanessa about our new report on govt transparency in policymaking! https://t.co/WfiwHdvR8H
Come check out our webinar today at 1230 where I'll be discussing our latest report! Full disclosure: coming up with the phrasing for this was almost as fun as the research itself ;)

I was lucky enough to participate in an awesome science policy training program hosted by @E4Dca back in March. Check out my blog post to see what I learned!!
As we wrap up E4D’s inaugural Science to Policy Accelerator program, Policy Researcher Caitlin Fowler shares the highlights & key learnings we took from our #S2PA speakers & #SciPol leaders. Check it out!

So does anyone in #cdnpoli or #onpoli in #covid19 Health know how Paxlovid got approved as an outpatient drug? It needs constant medical monitoring, with a high risk of bleeding out and tripling of dosage of pain meds like fentanyl.
Why we can't stop saying gay, a story
On the first day of my senior year of high school, a new boy showed up in my AP English class.
He had transferred from a prestigious private school to my public school, and I was confused.
I asked him why he moved and he shrugged

"Government policy that puts clinically vulnerable people at risk of grave harm every time they have to access essentials that can’t be got online is on a slippery slope to genocide - or social cleansing, or social Darwinism, or eugenics. Call it what you will, it’s criminal."
By the will of Big Business, and in a bid to win elections, several governments have dropped mask mandates, thereby putting clinically vulnerable people on a conveyer belt to death or debilitation. 1/
So let me get this straight: Ontario's COVID-19 Science Advisory Table wasn't consulted before the Ontario government announced they were going to remove mask mandates?
What's the point of having a science advisory table if they aren't going to be allowed to…advise?
This is what leadership looks like!
Niagara's top doctor says that they do not agree with @fordnation's decision to drop mask mandates and will be looking into issuing a Section 22 Order to maintain them locally. It is possible.
@VeraEtches take notes.

Depressing to see Covid denial follow exactly the same trajectory as climate denial:
> It’s not real
> It’s real but not bad
> It’s real & bad but there’s nothing we can do
> We could do something but it would inconvenience us (& mostly help the more vulnerable) so not worth it
Five years ago, I spoke at a rally in because transgender students were being attacked. Me with this "I'm the scary transgender person the media warned you about" sign went viral. I wasn't scary at all. I was just a 10 year old being herself.
.@ZelenskyyUa's tv address to the Russian (!) people might be the most moving speech that I've ever seen in my entire life. The whole world needs to see, understand and share this crucial Ukrainian message.
