The original ending had Andie choosing Duckie. Test audiences hated it. John Hughes reshot the finale so she ends up with Blane instead, completely changing the romantic legacy of the film.

40 years ago today, “Pretty In Pink” was released in theaters featuring one of the best soundtracks of the ‘80s including songs by The Psychedelic Furs, New Order, The Smiths, OMD, Echo & the Bunnymen, INXS, Suzanne Vega with Joe Jackson, Belouis Some and more.

What blows my mind a bit is that Neil Sedaka attended the same high school as Neil Diamond, who had transferred there from Erasmus Hall High School, where he’d known Barbra Streisand. At the same time, that school, Abraham Lincoln High School, was also turning out songwriters Howard Greenfield and Mort Shuman (plus Harvey Keitel and Louis Gossett Jr.) Meanwhile, just a few miles away, Carole King was in high school (with Bernie Sanders?!), while her future husband and writing partner Gerry Goffin was at Brooklyn Tech. They were all a part of this weird Brooklyn bubble of songwriters.🤯
