It doesn't protect you from viral infection, it protects others from you spreading it as it reduces your ability to spread through droplets. Someone else's mask protects you from catching it. You're doing it to protect others. Everyone is responsible for protecting eachother.

As someone with a chronic lung disease, this is stupid. I wear a mask when doing cardio and climbing in the gym and experience absolutely no issue. It doesn't decrease oxygen levels at all. If it did, surgeons would pass out during 20+ hour surgeries. And yet, they don't.
