Pretty sure that I don't agree at all with this but good to read. I think that this argument is all about cost and not about benefit. Will it be more work to take every Java release? Probably. But you can get new language features. And keep devs happy or recruit new ones.

Fun fact #1 about Postgres: the standard query optimizer is based on algorithms developed by the IBM System R team in the 1970s. However, another optimizer based on a genetic algorithm kicks in at a large # of joins. This one (GEQO) finds access paths based on mutation.

Writing 20 pages of my book on Django ORM performance has brought me to a little over 1/4 of the planned contents, but 1/2 of the planned page count. 🤔It has also taken me into the C code for the Postgres query optimizer and 1970s research papers on access paths in IBM System R.

@stevemallen I don't know but I feel for you. On my old phone I struggled with the volume warning that would damage my hearing. Would be nice to actually be able to control my phone.
