Unless you understand the history (the actual history) you have no future. Ppl's opinions of the current situation is based on their actual history and not what is printed in a foreign country's text book. If you don't understand what happened you can't possibly deal with a foreign country with any credibility. I know this first hand. Standing in a country regurgitating propaganda to my counterpart who actually lived through the war and then being schooled on what really happened and not the CIA's version was incredibly eye opening. It leaves you flat-footed and not a good look. So if you are there to work out a deal and you are viewed as ignorant, the deal is much less likely to happened bc you're viewed as stupid.
