@Devlinside123@avidseries Bunch of nonsense. Putin and Russia have named themselves our enemies. All else aside, paying Ukraine to kill Russians and degrade their economy and military is defense on the cheep. Why would this be more dangerous than supporting the Afgans against the Soviets in the 80s?
@mattyglesias Everyone who drives knows that we speed at least a little when it seems safe and normal - so nobody likes inflexible traffic cams. But, as usual, people don't get how extreme, the extremes are. No 'normal' occasional speeder needs to worry about penalties for Super Speeders.
@Steve_Sailer Yea - while this might be the end result regardless, you'd think that people would have learned the value of pausing and and least taking a deep breath. Even the NYT isn't inerrant and the man isn't around to defend himself.
@PeterMoskos My understanding is that chronic” homeless will need supportive housing for a long time in most cases, so it wouldn’t work. If targeted at short term cases or even in smaller amounts to the pre-homeless (as in slim rental subsidies) it might work. But cost disease and targeting!
@jenniferdoleac And I think that most of the interventions/solutions for the really gnarly problems we have work a lot less well in general than we think. Even if they “work” what can’t be refined for greater impact.
@TheorySky@ChristopherJM So if the Russians grab Montana and Wyoming we should negotiate a peace with them? While it is true that the US benefits from Ukraine bleeding Russia, it is ALSO true that the Ukrainians sincerely want to fight to defend their country.
@AFpost@JonahDispatch When it was reported that @FBIDirectorKash was flying to a wrestling event his girlfriend was in, I was envisioning a robust woman with muscles and hands registered as dangerous weapons. Turns out she is a 26 yo country singer. Mr Patel is 45 and has serious game
@LordGrimdark@SamSykesSwears Yup - that’s about the size of it. Mostly AI does stuff that shouldn’t ever be done (spam & robo calls) very fast and cheap. When it tells me the 7 page document I’m reading is “long” and offers to summarize it, I despair for the human species.
@JeanM963 But do the people in your analogy think that they are guests? Or do they think that they are now co-owners and entitled to move the furniture and repaint the walls?
@PeterMoskos Maybe require people to agree to fewer pretrial delays as a requirement for pretrial release? Could be unfair/coercive but maybe not if we could get a rough estimate of required prep time and public defenders to agree to allocated more resources to these cases as well.
