250 Illinois communities just got no winter salt award from the state’s first bid.
Cargill did not bid. Compass said it had no extra salt. Morton Salt quoted McHenry $163 a ton, up from about $80.
Mount Prospect jumped from $68 to $113. Naperville is looking at $144 a ton on the state bid after paying $69 last year. Kendall County declared an emergency so local taxpayers could pay the markup before the quotes expired.
