People with turf lawns: What are the reasons you keep your turf lawn rather than replacing it with more productive and/or ecologically friendly plants?

It can't be economical for these companies to run redundant routes like that unless people are ordering so much crap that all those vehicles were full and delivering all their packages within my neighborhood. This level of petty consumption is unsustainable.
Out for a ride in my neighborhood just now I passed a big FedEx truck. As I rounded the corner, I saw a FedEx van. Behind it was a UPS truck. Right then another UPS truck drove past.
Four package delivery vehicles in the space of one residential block.
What the hell, humanity?

The driver said that the client is high profile and more important then my usage of the bike lane.
He even demonstrated that the plastic bollards were bendable which makes it so they can park. 🤦
@CLTBikeCommuter@SamGrundman@bikeMSSNGR@CharlotteDOT Seems like something we should change. Real tired of delivery trucks, lawn crews, and sometimes CMPD blocking the bike lane and half the adjacent motor vehicle lane so that I'm endangered by oncoming traffic.
@DougTallamy I just finished your latest book and want to take action!
When it comes to HOAs, I imagine folks will want to see a proposed policy along with research.
Do you know of any sample policy for this, studies on such policy changes, or case studies on HOAs that convert?
Alcohol content seems to be pretty low, which makes sense given I didn't add any sugar to the mix. I really didn't expect such a pleasantly mellow result.
So a little while back I had foraged and filled a 48oz bottle with blackberries and topped it with a bit of water to prevent mold. It fermented and smelled kinda great, so tonight I blended it up and filtered out the seeds. The yield was 36oz of wild yeast powered magic.
Did you know you can use your @cmlibrary card to get access to digital resources?
I just used my library card and the Hoopla app to check out the audiobook of "Bringing Nature Home: How You Can Sustain Wildlife with Native Plants" by Douglas Tallamy for free.
@currydu It's really terrible how ubiquitous they are. I bought a super old house partly to avoid those headaches.
In case it isn't obvious, I'm hoping to put together a some kind of local permaculture initiative. I really want more people to partake in the joy of food gardening.
People with turf lawns: What are the reasons you keep your turf lawn rather than replacing it with more productive and/or ecologically friendly plants?
@currydu So if someone were to develop a local permaculture initiative and successfully negotiate with your HOA (hey we can dream), you would be interested in converting some or all of the turf lawn?
I'm not trying to call anybody out for growing turf - I still have some myself! I just want to get a sense of the reasons people might be opposed to or intimidated by converting their lawns into food forests or wildlife gardens.
