@McFaul They didn't go to war because America provided the security architecture, thus alleviating the collective action problems Europe would confront otherwise. America has made sure our allies don't fight with each other in Europe, their regime type makes no difference.
@McFaul Making predictions in politics is an invariably tricky enterprise. You should know this yourself, as a scholar-practitioner. Somehow you're still taken seriously after your staunch advocacy for social engineering in faraway places and acknowledged dishonesty as a diplomat.
Today, we remember a legend.
On this day in history, Harambe would have celebrated another birthday. An icon that became part of internet history, American culture, and an entire generation’s timeline.
Tomorrow marks 10 years since we lost him. Ten years since the moment the world stopped scrolling and collectively mourned something bigger than a meme.
He became a symbol of loyalty, strength, chaos, unity, and the strange beauty of the internet bringing millions of people together for one cause: never forgetting Harambe.
Everyone remembers where they were when they heard the news. And somehow, a decade later, his legacy still lives on.
Gone, but never forgotten.
Rest easy to a true patriot. 🕊️🇺🇸

Forever in our hearts.
Liberating the Iranian people by bombing their oil refineries, poisoning their air, destroying their fresh water supplies, exploding their elementary schools, and now "obliterating" their power plants. Who wouldn't be grateful for this?
trump says he can end the war whenever he wants.
but:
1) straitsclosed: drone strikes, mining continuing
2) mojtaba khameini in charge
3) regime making big money from oil export
4) knowledge base, enriched uranium stocks, and strong motivation to build a nuclear bomb asap
An incredibly important interview with Bafel Talabani, a prominent Kurdish leader and son of legendary Jalal Talabani. He says he doesn’t not see signs of regime change in Iran and opposes the idea of pushing Iranian Kurds to fight the regime.
If anyone saw this in their city or town, they would think:
"This is what liberation looks like. We are so grateful to the foreigners bombing our civilian and economic infrastructure and dropping bombs in our neighborhoods."
Iranian girls in particular are swooning with joy:
solid analysis here showing united states likely behind strikes that killed some 150 schoolchildren in initial hours of attacks on iran.
pentagon should order full investigation immediately.
We are heartbroken to learn that Declan Coady—a well-loved and highly dedicated Drake University student studying information systems, cybersecurity, and computer science—was confirmed to be among the six U.S. service members killed in Kuwait on Sunday. He has bravely served in the U.S. Army Reserves since 2023 as an Information Technologies Specialist and had an incredibly bright future ahead of him. In moments like these, we must all come together to show much-needed love and compassion for the Coady family through this incredibly difficult time.
CSIS munitions expert Seth Jones: "the reality is neither Israel nor the United States have sufficient munitions, either offensive or defensive, for a war that really lasts weeks into months."
If you spent years obsessing over placards on college campuses in search of bigotry and racism, and have nothing to say about this close ally and adviser to the president calling for the rounding up of all Muslims, then maybe you don’t actually care about racism and bigotry.
