What makes someone cool? Do the characteristics of cool people differ across cultures? My co-authors and I attempted to answer these questions by running experiments in 12 countries. Surprisingly, we find that cool people have the same six characteristics in every country. [1/4]

We found a similar pattern in Australia, Chile, China, Germany, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Spain, South Africa, South Korea, Turkey, and the United States. The characteristics associated with cool people also did not depend on the gender, age, or education of the respondent.
