Prediction: This will not come to pass. AI music will have some place in the music arena going forward, but not remotely enough to kill music streaming; indeed, it may just add to it.
I am not joking when I say this.
Spotify, Apple Music, and streaming in general is over.
AI music is now very, very good. You just don't know yet because all AI music circulating today is from ~2-3 generations ago.
Suno v6 pro et al has solved infinite personalized music.
@AppleSupport This isโฆinsane. How can it possibly be the case that when you delete filtered-in rows in Numbers, you also delete filtered-*out* rows??? https://t.co/AdGIfKQ2Tm
@connorpklocke 1) As many as the market desires.
2) If that were the most cost-effective method, thatโs what they would do.
3) Why do we need a new factory? A new store? A new farm? A new house? Why does what someone else builds have to benefit you?
Sooner or later, I think people are going to have to come to terms with the fact that โstochastic parrotโ is actually a correct way to describe an LLM
Yes, it turns out that stochastic parrots can do a tremendous amount, and the technology is revolutionary, but it is still tokens and tokens out at the end of the day
There is no lived experience inside that matrix multiplication machine, no persistent state, no emotions, no sense of identity, ownership, or belonging
It is just an empty autocomplete machine
Extremely useful to humans, much better than humans at a lot of things, but an empty tool with no agency, no will, and no emotions
I think fighting to maintain that perspective, and to see through what is essentially a puppet show, is going to be an important part of navigating the next few years
It occurs to me that if we had genuinely-perfectly-enforced speed limits, we wouldnโt need speed limits at all. Just ticket those who are actually driving recklessly. Speed limits are, and always have been, just an easier proxy for reckless driving.
Real problem here is more basic. Speed limits as theyโve existed are basically 5-10mph under the desired speed. Thatโs the equilibrium. โ25โ on a sign basically means โstay under 35 and youโre probably good, unless a cop really wants to pull you over for some other reasonโ
This is all known and taken into account by the people who decide what number goes on the sign! โ25โ kinda means 34, โ35โ kinda means 44 and so on.
So, while Perfect Literal Enforcement by machine is kind of fine in principle, if/where this is applied *without changing the numbers* it basically means a de facto exogenous 5-10 speed-limit reduction for no real reason besides โwe have cameras nowโ.
Of course people arenโt inclined to be thrilled about that!
@soncharm Itโs so much worse than that. Ever driven around a cop car? Cop cars form โwolf packsโ around them, of people afraid to go faster than the cop car. This is inherently dangerous. This is what a rigorously-enforced speed limit regime would look like (ish).
@jeremyct How much would that cost? If people have free access to doctors, many will go for every hangnail. Economics teaches us that the quantity demanded for a free, valuable product is infinite. Is there infinite money to pay for this?
@beinlibertarian โOnce the land is gone, itโs gone.โ Completely false. You can just tear down the data center and turn the land back into farmland if needed.
