Tito Puente grew up in the New York City neighborhood of Spanish Harlem (El Barrio) on East 110th Street. It was co-named "Tito Puente Way" shortly after his death in 2000. Puente has also been commemorated in three murals in the city—two in Manhattan and one in the Bronx.
