@DocumenterK@LauraMcShaneCLE The project proposes sidewalk enhancements as well as a sidewalk-level bikeway. I assume that's what the reporter refers to but please visit the project website for details of the proposal. https://t.co/PQ38k4NAEL
A couple important clarifications here:
-We don't have an estimated timeline for #LorainMidway construction. There is a still a significant funding gap to close
-Community engagement is ongoing to inform project details

Construction could begin next year on a $30 million streetscape with protected bike and pedestrian lanes on Lorain Avenue from West 25th Street to West 65th Street. But some businesses worry about loss of parking spots and a long construction process.

@MayorBibb@CityofCleveland@Bike_CLE Want to help us make this transformation a reality for Cleveland? Interested consultants can find the Citywide Mobility Plan RFP here: https://t.co/1i1fZJ1uj0 We look forward to your proposals!
The updated citywide mobility plan will guide rapid bikeway buildout, pedestrian improvements, and multimodal programs & policies. It will be our roadmap to transform our streets to make the 15-Min City experience a reality for CLE.
Citywide mobility plan + newly introduced legislation for a Transportation Demand Management program along transit corridors = streets and land use where walking, biking, and transit work for residents @MayorBibb@CityofCleveland@Bike_CLE
@sordsferntrees Along the new lanes in the painted buffer. The separated bike/ped/multiuse path on the north side of the Lorain-Carnegie bridge is an existing low stress connection from there.
The new Lorain Avenue bike lanes are an interim treatment-an extra enhancement to a routine resurfacing project-that closes a key gap in our bike network while we design & fund the Lorain Midway. They are a marked improvement over what was there before & construction isn't done.
@krissiepotato From a user perspective, understood that it is confusing to have a bright green bike symbol straight ahead and nothing directing riders to the left to the separated bike path on the north side, as it is now. Signage and some addl striping will clarify & help w/ intuitive movement
@krissiepotato From a design perspective, the end of a bike lane requires a transition zone into the travel lane. We chose to keep the new bike lane continuous west of W 20 (many riders) and transition it east of the intersection. (Alternative would be to transition to sharrows west of W 20th)
Addl striping, signage, and protection will be installed in coming days,ย including wayfinding signage directing riders to the separated bike/ped path on the north side of the Lorain-Carnegie bridge โ the preferred and encouraged route for cyclists riding into Downtown.
@PeteMarek This is an interim treatment between now and when the Lorain Ave Midway/Cycletrack is built that adds quality bike infra to our network with only a small addition needed to the budget of the resurfacing project.
@PeteMarek Glad to see the interest in the new bike lane here! The project isn't finished yet. Striping/painting in the bike lane and buffer has to be completed, and then we'll add the physical separation. We've asked the contractor for a timing update, and I'll share when we have it!
@FixRStreets216 @notaproviderMD@CityofCleveland@MayorBibb Most of our work is not in the form of public meetings, but maintenance will be part of the Complete & Green St Transportation Infra Advisory Committee discussions, which will be recorded and posted online. Also happy to meet and discuss in more detail with you if you'd like.
Are you passionate about #CompleteStreets, #VisionZero, bikeways for all, and building a Cleveland where everyone can move freely, safely, and joyfully? Join us @CityofCleveland to help make @MayorBibb's multimodal goals a reality! Exciting jobs are now posted:
@notaproviderMD@CityofCleveland@MayorBibb Understood! These staff will be part of the team guiding maintenance strategies and capital investment on roadways across the city.
