What better way to announce that @heroicgg will be attending and speaking at @esportsinsider's #ESILisbon than with a dumb skit about our CFO being unfrozen from the Esports Winter.
Let's meet at ESI and/or SBC next week for 🍺or ☕️
Esports Insider is back with another edition of The Esports Journal magazine!
This magazine is one of my favourite projects to be involved in. Huge credit to @callmeprivate for leading the magazine, it's our largest one yet!
Read it online here 📖: https://t.co/TB7cMH3pOD
More and more the top (or featured) search result for my query is a LinkedIn/Medium post or other UGC *clearly* written by AI.
The fact Google is preferencing not just AI writing but AI writing by a random user with no credibility/authority on the subject is highly concerning
A really good piece by @AithusaHere on esports team finances and executives' thoughts on the Esports Winter
There's quite a few reveals in this piece including several teams *claiming* they're profitable (or close), plus insight into Riot's payouts to teams that drive engagement
In a sweeping look at the financial health of esports organisations, Esports Insider spoke to executives from several leading teams to assess the health of the space — and answer the question: Are we ready to talk about an Esports Spring?

@Friday5155@Coco_VLR@TacticalRab@Sheep_Esports I think Sheep monetising via YT/Twitch might work but more bcos of direct/parasocial relationships driving subs/donations rather than video ad revenue (unless that's what you meant!)
@Friday5155@Coco_VLR@TacticalRab@Sheep_Esports imo it's the ad supported journalism model that's the problem, not the platform on which you run your ad supported journalism. Realistically I don't think monetising via YouTube/Twitch could sustain a publication
@jfudge The conflicts here for Esports Awards are immense. Will people who criticise Saudi Arabia get chosen? Will journalists speaking the truth about the country get chosen? Even if they do, they’ll have to go to a country that kills dissidents for being critical to receive their award
A strong games press is especially important as the lines blur btwn gaming and social media/big tech. There are so fucking many stories to write. These senseless layoffs are especially painful as reactionary YouTubers with no journalism training eat away at journalism's mindshare
