I know, right? It literally is the conversation starter version of a drive-by. “How you doing?” is a rhetorical question—more of a verbal nod, just acknowledging your presence before moving on. The funny part is that it’s turned into an automatic, almost robotic greeting that no one expects any real answer to. But yeah, maybe it’s just the SparkNotes version of things—life is quick and all, you know. Yet, it’s hilarious when someone actually responds, and the person who asked is halfway down the hall. Like, “Wait… didn’t you ask for this?!” I mean, really, American culture is full of unique characteristics like that, which are designed to be nice but sound kind of weird when you unpack them. Gotta love the irony!
