and to be clear: she is unfortunately correct. women DO have to subscribe to the patriarchy and make palatable art that sells to be respected in an artistic community. however i do not find that heartening at all
this is actually incredibly disheartening. to say that women have no choice but to subscribe to capitalism which is inherently only functional because of patriarchy in the first place. to say that art made by women must be consumable from the standpoint of the patriarchy im sick
Taylor Swift talks about the the intersection of patriarchy, money, and art:
“What has existed since the dawn of time? A patriarchal society. What fuels a patriarchal society? Money, flow of revenue, the economy. So actually, if we’re going to look at this in the most cynical way possible, feminine ideas becoming lucrative means that more female art will get made. It’s extremely heartening.”
@8q4bd66m56 i get what ur saying but i would argue that the ideologies behind punk should never be watered down to appease the upper class that’s kind of like. the entire point
@DaraFeller@taylorswift13 your photography is so beautiful your eye is insane i absolutely love your work & i take a lot of inspiration from you as an aspiring concert photographer thank u for blessing us with your photos for real
on one hand i get why ppl would feel defensive of the term punk and the punk movement bc it is anti-establishment & anti-capitalism so to hear a billionaire use that term is weird but at the same time there are so much bigger fish to fry like it doesn’t matter *that* much lol
