This is true, but there’s a middle ground people ignore.

You don’t have to choose between a monolith that struggles to scale and microservices that add too much complexity.

Serverless sits right in the middle.

With API Gateway and Lambdas, you can keep a simple mono repo, ship fast, pay almost nothing at low traffic, and still scale automatically when users grow.

I’ve helped setup an worked with a SaaS codebase that run ~50k users on about $40 per month with this setup.

Same simplicity as a monolith, but without the scaling headache.

Most teams are overengineering when this option already exists.
