It is a small tragedy when the student does not surpass the teacher, and a great blessing when they do - for what am I if not shoulders for your feet, a pillar to bring you closer to heaven?
These young girls initially go on dates as a matter of hunger. The thought of cooking pap and wors for one depresses them, so they go on dates where they order something big like seafood platter for one - a dish they won’t finish, meaning it guaranteed a takeaway and another meal for tomorrow. Any guy who will feed them restaurant food from places they cannot afford to take themselves to is a keeper. Bonus points if he has a car because her time in the passenger seat gives her an opportunity to display to her competition that she has been sought after.
In time, they treat the date as a rendered service - meaning the man must pay for the service of being seen in public with them, smelling their perfume, looking at the dolled-up face, and sustaining what is often a shallow conversation bereft of any nutrition like getting to know her. The initial point of hunger still applies, but it becomes notable how the priority for the girlie is rendering services for survival instead of genuinely looking after oneself beyond athletics. This is also the phase where new expectations can materialise, like girlfriend allowances or a contract iPhone paid for by the mister. Prolonged versions of this phase can quickly lead to the girlie developing a roster of men. The effort and concentration required to sustain this comes at the expense of childhood friendships and academic performance - meaning the girlies here start as varsity students but rarely complete their qualifications.
Then at the end, the now experienced girlie treats going on a date with them as an exclusive privilege. A date with them must be treated with the same rarity as purchases from the diamond walk of V&A Waterfront or Sandton City. Franchise establishments are no longer acceptable, along with any establishment that is open at 10am on a weekday or sells its menu items on Uber Eats. At this level, they no longer leave with takeaways from those establishments - they order food and drinks they cannot pronounce as the main intent is how much the man is willing to comfortably and regularly spend. There’s also a disregard for the actual food as it is more important to order what looks exotic in the inevitable photos - not what they genuinely want to eat. Like all luxury items - the costs are inflated and if you have to ask - you’re not the target market, and if you can’t afford it - you had no business asking them out on the date.
This is where we are now.
@abysstoabyss The worst part is that phrase was used by a very good preacher as a joke, discussing how we're all born with a sinful nature, and now they're using it as a serious thing.
Gloria Steinem has passed away at 92 years old, leaving zero descendants after murdering her only child in the womb when she was 22 years old. Instead of physical descendants, she leaves innumerable miserable feminist women as spiritual descendants, many of whom will experience a similar tragic end to their earthly lives. Presuming she never repented of her sins and believed the gospel, the misery of Gloria Steinem has only started, having fallen into the hands of a just and holy God. Unless they repent and believe the gospel, this same miserable eternity sorrowfully awaits millions of other feminists who shake their fists in rebellion at the rule of the Father.
Every 6 months or so all of academia takes a break from their important scholarship in order to remind us that each and every single hillbilly luddite stereotype about higher education being a cocoon of berserk shrieking Stalinist savages is 100% correct.
One reason I refuse to livestream our worship services (the sermon goes on YouTube Monday or Tuesday) is because I want the fear of missing out to be real. If you weren’t there, then you missed something. You did not worship with your congregation. You missed out on that.
Now I know the question: what about the shut-ins and the elderly who truly can’t make it?
First, widespread livestreaming of worship services is a brand-new development. For almost all of church history, it simply didn’t exist.
Second, the sermon will still be available online, and the elders should be regularly visiting shut-ins for prayer and, where appropriate, the Lord’s Supper in person.
Third, the number of excuses people make for staying home has exploded. Everyone seems to have a “medical reason” they can’t gather. Yet if most people missed work as often as they miss public worship, they would soon be out of a job.
I’m not interested in encouraging that mindset. Public worship is gathered worship. That’s what I want to encourage.
I grew up in South Texas attending an Episcopal Church but even I heard many such condemnations as Mardi Gras time drew near. My Baptist and Pentecostal friends heard far more. Away with the fantasy that conservative churches don’t preach against heterosexual fornication or adultery. That was the entire aim of the “purity culture” people love to hate. The purported silence about heterosexual sin is a wish fantasy. It never happened. It’s a myth created by people who want to cast the church in the worst possible light and to cast as victims people who should be exhorted to repent. Pride festivals should die (thankfully they are) and so should the bourbon street bachanal. The difference between the two is that the former is a nationwide intentional political act designed to make sexual perversion normal and celebrated while the bourbon street wickedness is just that, perverse wickedness but without an ideological agenda.
"Jews secretly control everything, but also they aren't real Jews, and also they're extinct, and also they're everywhere.
We're the real Jews, but being Jewish is bad, so we're definitely not Jewish.
We follow Christ, who apparently wasn't Jewish, despite being called the King of the Jews.
If that sounds incoherent, that only proves the conspiracy goes even deeper.
But of course, people like you don't understand this.
You Jew."
@JadeAtrophis Young guys who are unhappy with their own lives eat this stuff up because it gives them an unearned feeling of superiority over others.
I think this is counterproductive and only hurts them as it helps to deepen their sense of nihilism and feeling like “Everything sucks”
@MentzerOcean I'm sorry brother 🫂
If you'd like some help or even just people to vent to or seek fellowship with, let me know. I can dm you and invite you to a Christian Discord group we have.
@MentzerOcean Everyone also to whom God has given wealth and possessions and power to enjoy them, and to accept his lot and rejoice in his toil—this is the gift of God.
(Ecclesiastes 5:19 ESV)
@MentzerOcean Man I want to cheer you on so badly.
I reject that entirely, because God rejects that entirely. He doesn't control you like a puppet. (Keep in mind, I'm heavily Calvinist leaning). He has given you everything you need to take your life and wrestle it for His glory.
@MentzerOcean Enjoying natural things within the means God designed them to be enjoyed is part of wisdom (See Ecclesiastes).
Enjoying natural things in a sinful way (porn, fornication, adultery, or even a selfish, lustful manner within marriage) is the evil part.
@MentzerOcean Not at all. If you have a past of hurt regarding this, I understand your hesitation.
But the enjoyment is designed by God for our good. Enjoying life is part of how God made us. Good food, good friends, and yes this extends to sex within marriage as well.
