Someone needs to go to the board of supervisors at their next meeting and yell at them about this. It actually works, as it did with LA County in 2022.
@rpyers I assume one of the steps in verification is prior to opening the envelope, to look at the postmark and if there is not one or if the date is after June 2, to throw it out as it is not valid. @lacountyrrcc
i honestly just think it's that janet mills did not actually want to run in the first place at all
the fact that even now she's just saying she's on the ballot instead of actually re-launching the campaign is a tell
@UnrigLA Can you track Measure ER as well? It is creeping up but not sure if there are enough votes to pass, although I would assume LA city turnout may be higher than the rest of the county. If this passes the fire tax will be much tougher in November.
Large counties in California could follow the lead of Placer County which encourages in person voting and their sign scan and go program, which allows voters to sign their ballot off, be scanned immediately, and be tabulated on election night. https://t.co/AmGJeguIZ3
@UnrigLA I think the daily updates is a minor factor. The real issue is we don’t do drop, sign, and scan and don’t encourage voters to vote in person early. RRCC had 250-ish vote centers for Prop 50 and saw three hour long lines at 6 pm on Tuesday, which discourages them from doing fewer.
@UnrigLA (LA County started doing daily updates in November 2022. Before it was less relevant but in June 2022 there were a lot of issues in Glendale since it was possible that @AraJNajarian would lose and be kicked off the @metrolosangeles board if the count trended against him.)
I appreciate that, but the elected BOS makes that decision. Daily tabulation would help improve citizen confidence and would not cost a significant amount more than the existing cost of staffing 600+ vote centers for a few dozen voters each day before Tuesday.
@UnrigLA As one of those advocates who called the BOS in 2022 to make them do more updates I disagree. Fewer updates lets you see the trend, it allows for better preparation for staff transitioning, and it helps mitigate claims of vote fraud.
@PatrickRuffini The ballots are working their way through the snake. It just takes time. They already take regular county employees away from their day jobs to staff vote centers and arguably you could send some student workers to do ballot processing, but not sure it is worth it for a week.
Bad news, SCAG CEHD approved it as is, but West Hollywood, Ontario, and South Pasadena wanted to follow the state guidance and not defy them on the two points of difference. It now heads to the Regional Council on July 2.
