‼️‼️SPECIALISTS ‼️‼️
3 WAYS TO ADD 10 YARDS TO EVERY KICK!
1.) STRENGTH TRAIN ALL YEAR AROUND
Not just in the off season, or a few weeks before your next beach trip, strength training needs to be a part of your weekly routine, all year long. Emphasizing things like power development, overall strength, stability, mobility, and flexibility, all while making your body as resilient as possible to any potential risk of injury. A stronger and healthier you doesn’t just help you in the gym, it translates directly onto the field. It also creates longevity. At my current age, and where I am at in my career, I attribute a ton of it to my consistency in the weight room. If your goal is to sustain and also increase your overall kicking power and strength, this piece of the puzzle is crucial. Strength training builds the foundation for your kicking power. Adding distance, height, and explosiveness in every ball you strike. Another major benefit is the mental toughness that comes with it. Showing up consistently, grinding when others take shortcuts, and preparing your body and mind for the biggest moments ahead.
2.) KICK WITH YOUR WHOLE BODY
When I say this, I’m referring to the driving force behind that ball being launched. For example, anyone can stand still, lean against a wall, set up a football, and swing their leg, kicking it 20-30 yards. That is leg power alone. Now think about what happens when you add momentum, movement, and force into that same kicking motion? That is when the kicks begin to fly higher, further, and more straight! I often tell my athletes, “Think of that UFC fighter who weighs 150 pounds, but can knock someone, if not multiple people, out cold with one powerful, controlled kick.” That’s more than just leg power, he’s generating power from the ground up, making use of his core, hips, and body in one coordinated strike. To me, kicking is no different. When you can learn to strike that football with your entire body working together (plant leg, hips, core, glutes, swing) you unlock new levels of distance and power. Less is more!
3.) BUILD AN UNBREAKABLE MINDSET
Every great kicker knows that mechanics and strength only take you so far. When the lights are brightest and the game is on the line, it’s your mindset and routine that carry you through. As a kicker, pressure is unavoidable. Crowds are loud. Coaches are yelling. Teammates are counting on you. Job may be on the line. In that moment, it’s not about hoping and praying you rise to the occasion and execute. It’s the ability to fall back on your training, your preparation, and your process. Trusting the work put in each and every day. You always hear me preach routine. Make it unbreakable. An anchor or sequence you can trust every single time, every practice, every game, and every rep. This gives you confidence, calms the nerves, and keeps you locked in on what matters most, that next kick. Being mentally resilient is what separates good specialists from great ones.

#Patriots WR DeMario Douglas on his childhood friend Terrell Jennings:
“If y’all don’t know his story, he really got it out the mud… When he got in that end zone… You would think I was on the field how fast I got there… It’s a blessing to see him here.”
