watching the Oscars to distract myself from doing the last bit of work for this term!!! I also went to the Magdalene library today which won Stirling prize last year!

and this trip today made me extremely sad that I don't go to Magdalene college because pros:

We covered the third law of thermodynamics in statistical physics today but we only spent 5 minutes on it? all the other laws got at least 2-lectures-worth of spotlight but not this one :'( (as a mathematician I sure do a lot of physics!)

I went to the arc café for lunch (it's on the site with all the humanities departments) and had the best they have to offer: chicken and chorizo ciabatta. Then I sat in the sun eating my chicken and chorizo ciabbata with my friend (he also had the chicken and chorizo ciebatta).

my mathematical biology lectures suddenly turned into just fluid dynamics?? so I've been very sad over the past week missing the populations of frogs and mosquitos and the rest of the creatures.

i got lost in general relativity this weekend but by no means was it an unpleasant trip! be careful kids, tensors are like drugs!
I also sat next to a first year maths student in the library today and wow. it's insane that there was a time when I didn't know how great tensors are

all I did today was solve integrals in the complex plane. and while the first two might have been fun, once it get to 10 of them all you want to do is differentiate something!

this is where I started: https://t.co/NJoTX5E4DH. this is meant to prepare you for STEP 1 but it's still worth doing. once you get to the modules for STEP 2, start thinking about timing yourself etc. but you shouldn't stress about doing it at first - think about it as fun maths!

all of you that did get an offer to study maths at Cambridge congratulations! now that it's settled in I strongly recommend looking at some STEP exam questions! (you probably did not need me to tell you that) don't be afraid if you find them hard at first!

the @theUL tea rooms have been open since 9th of January and NO ONE bothered to tell me. I went today to have lunch and ended up having a fruit scone. which was the fuel I needed to do TENSORS! thank you tea rooms 😊

in today's episode of logic and set theory we proves that addition on the ordinals is not commutative! how absurd is that! ∞+1=∞+1 but 1+∞=∞. but fear not, it is still associative!

i went for a nice little swim (1 length) at the lido before lectures this morning and then spent too long at the sauna so I was late for my 10am. I wish my lecturer could read this and understand that I'm late only because of all the character building I did in the morning.

today in logic in set theory (every good story starts with that) we counted the ordinals. here are the ones we wrote down. we kept going for 20 minutes.

I had to skip my Sunday swim at the lido today for a Florence and the machine concert last night! I'm visiting my friend in Leeds and I mentioned how every one of my lectures is on a blackboard. I have become so used to it and find it natural but she couldn't believe. Proof:

Today in logic and set theory I've learned that all the ordinals can't form a set! if you take just some of them that's a set but all of them are not! this is called the Burali-Forti paradox and it absolutely blew my and lots of other people's minds.
