An MLA in my district has set a target for each Mandal Revenue Officer: Rs 30 lakh per month. There are 5 MROs. That is Rs 1.5 crore a month from MROs alone. Rs 18 crore a year. Rs 90 crore over a five-year term. Just from one department.

Now add the Sub-Registrar offices. The PWD contracts. The Health department. Irrigation. Police postings and transfers. Each one has its own monthly target flowing upward. Do the math and you are staring at an MLA generating at least Rs 1,000 crore over a five-year term. A thousand crore. From a single constituency. There are constituencies where it would be a multiple of this.

This is not a public servant. This is a business enterprise.

The economics are straightforward. To win an assembly election in Andhra today, a candidate spends roughly Rs 50 crore. That is the investment. The Rs 1,000 crore over five years is the return. Some of it flows up the chain to party bosses. Some is distributed to supporters. A significant portion is set aside for the next election. And what remains is profit.

The business has its own marketing department. Travel through any constituency in Andhra and the biggest advertisements you see are not for soap or smartphones. They are for the MLA. Massive hoardings wishing him on his birthday. His son's birthday plastered across the town with firecrackers to mark the occasion. His daughter's wedding celebrated like a state event. Every other car has a sticker that says "MLA." His face is on more surfaces than any consumer brand. This is not politics. This is brand building for a franchise.

And here is the part that makes the whole system self-sustaining: vote buying.

During elections, most voters in these constituencies sell their vote for a few thousand rupees. Rs 2,000. Rs 5,000. Sometimes Rs 10,000. It is openly done. Everyone knows. Once you accept that money, something fundamental shifts. You lose any moral or ethical standing to question the MLA on his corruption. You were part of the transaction. You took the upfront payment. He is now collecting the returns on his investment. You cannot complain about the toll when you sold him the road.

This is the behavioral trap that locks the system in place. The voter knows the MLA is corrupt. The MLA knows the voter knows. But the transaction at the time of the election creates a mutual complicity that silences accountability for five years. It is not fear. It is not ignorance. It is moral disarmament through participation. You cannot be the victim of a system you voluntarily entered.

The scale of this is difficult to comprehend. We are not talking about petty corruption. We are not talking about a bureaucrat taking a few thousand rupees to process a file. We are talking about a systematic, industrialized extraction machine that generates thousands of crores per constituency per term. Multiply that across 175 assembly constituencies in Andhra Pradesh alone and you begin to see the magnitude.

And yet no one makes a noise about it.

Not the opposition, because they run the same enterprise when they are in power. Not the media, because the MLA is often the biggest advertiser in the local market. Not the bureaucracy, because the MRO is in on it. Not civil society, because the NGOs need the MLA's goodwill to operate. And not the voters, because they took the money.

The entire ecosystem has reached an equilibrium where corruption is not a deviation from the system. It is the system. The MLA is not a corrupt politician. He is a businessman who invested Rs 50 crore and expects a return. The MRO is not a corrupt officer. He is a franchise operator who pays a monthly fee to keep his posting. The voter is not a victim of corruption. He is a participant who sold his leverage for Rs 5,000.

Today, an MLA generating a thousand crore in a single term barely registers as news. It is not hidden. It is not denied. It is simply accepted, the way you accept that water flows downhill. It is the operating system.

And that acceptance is the most dangerous part. Not the corruption itself, but the complete normalization of it. When a society stops being outraged by extraction on this scale, when it treats a thousand crore in systematic theft as just how things work, it has not just tolerated corruption. It has internalized it. It has made peace with it. And that peace is the hardest thing to undo.

His sacrifice, his integrity and his courage is more any Indian I know.

While I agree that at least for me Khalid is a greater hero than Dipke as of now (his sacrifices are more than anyone's), but no need to compare and assign weightages.

That pure petrol is cheaper than E20 right now.
So if they make pure petrol available it'll be rs90-95 and E20 be rs100-105.

And then no one will take E20.

As much as the central government is taking credit for building a lot of infrastructure, it needs to find out why a significant number of these projects are of poor quality.

What is the use of pouring billions into building infrastructure that will probably not last very long?

Infrastructure built with current technology and developments should last for many decades.

Quantity can be appreciated only if there is quality.

Otherwise, it is a drain on resources and merely ends up as vanity projects.

Eyes on the Ken-Betwa Adivasi Protests — UPDATES:

- After 18 days, Jai Kisan Sangathan leader Amit Bhatnagar suspended his hunger strike.

- He ended the complete fast after the state assured protesters that fresh village-by-village surveys would be conducted in Chhatarpur.

- Joint teams of government officials and Jai Kisan Sangathan representatives are expected to recheck that eligible families affected by the Ken-Betwa Link Project were excluded from compensation and rehabilitation.

- Bhatnagar has described this as the movement’s “first success,” not its conclusion.

What is Nyay Satyagraha?

- The struggle will now continue as Nyay Satyagraha

- Bhatnagar plans to travel from one affected village to another to:

// track whether the government fulfils every assurance

- He has warned that the movement will enter another phase of agitation if these promises are not implemented.

What is Nyay Upvaas?

Bhatnagar has shifted from the indefinite hunger strike to a Nyay Upvaas (Justice Fast)

- He will continue refusing food grains and roti until the last eligible family receives justice and their rightful demands.

- His decision followed a serious deterioration in his health

- Women in affected villages had also begun a chulha bandi, refusing to cook in solidarity with the protest

elderly people and children had also started fasting.

What has the government said?

- The Madhya Pradesh government has not accepted the protesters’ entire case

- It maintains (of course) that all affected families have already been sanctioned compensation and rehabilitation benefits

- Ironically, the government’s own written response acknowledged that earlier village-level surveys in Chhatarpur identified 638 additional eligible families.
This increased the sanctioned list from 3,080 to 3,718 families across 14 villages.

The government also stated that 1,321 families across seven villages in Panna had been displaced.

What are the Adivasi protesters sayings?

- Eligible families were excluded from rehabilitation lists
- Compensation assessments were flawed
- Gram Sabha proceedings had irregularities
- Benefits were given to some ineligible people while legitimate claimants were left out
- The government denies that there has been a scam and says only a small number of cases remain unresolved because of documentation or banking issues

What happens next?

- Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has said that specific complaints will be investigated

- He has said the verification exercise will be completed within one month.

A fresh survey is a step, but not rehabilitation. The movement continues until every eligible family receives compensation, rehabilitation, land and statutory rights.

Dharmendra Pradhan has resigned....

Not because he takes accountability or holds himself responsible but because he "doesn't want anti national forces to take advantage of the situation".

Frankly, the text of his resignation is a load of crap.

However, it's a resignation nonetheless.

So to every student who protested on ground....

To every student who took a lathi on his/her body.....

To every protestor who supported the students....

To every person who voiced out in favour of the protest on social media....

To every person who showed solidarity towards the cause....

To every person who sat on a hunger strike (except maun vrat waala Anna).....

To every opposition leader who raised this issue in the Parliament......

To every politician who made this about the students and not about themselves....

To every leader who risked a detention and was carried away by the cops......

Basically to all those who stood together with Unity....

Kudos and a huge salute to you.

This is a small battle which has been won but has huge implications.

This is the first time someone in the Govt which said "Iss Govt mein resignations nahi hote" has been forced to resign....

However, do not make the mistake of thinking that you have won the war......You have won just one battle....the struggle is far from over.

The struggle is to make these leaders accountable for their actions or rather the lack of them.
