This article : talks about the problem with the new category, how it groups diverse asian music together based on geography rather than genre and how bts is right to refuse it (a category that appears to be made specifically for them)
— "If they're going to win, it should be a win that's truly earned among the best of the best, not in a tokenized category. In choosing not to submit this year, BTS has made its stance clear: Art should be judged based on its merits, not on where it was made or what language it’s performed in."
"BTS' decision not to enter their music is a blow to the Grammys' prestige but the biggest impact could be the Grammy telecast losing a powerhouse draw." lol
The US Award shows like the Grammys, Billboard, or the AMAs creating a separate K-pop category, only shows there is still a barrier for the artists. If the goal is truly to recognize music regardless of where it comes from, why create a separate category instead of allowing them to compete equally in the main categories?
The fact that a separate category is considered necessary says it all. Instead of including major korean artists in the main fields, they continue to be set apart because of their origin. Recognition should be based on impact, artistry, and achievements—not on separating artists by where they come from.

7/7.
“we have decided not to submit for the grammys this year.
we hope that music can be heard and appreciated for what it is, rather than being defined by region or language.
thank you to army and to everyone who has always supported us.”
BTS and HYBE's statement!
"We find it difficult to accept that this change in the Grammys' judging was made at a time when BTS was considered to have the highest chance of winning the main award." However, HYBE stated, "This is not a boycott at the company level." One official said, "If other artists from the same affiliation wish to participate, they will proceed as scheduled."
