🌟 UNILORIN CAMPUS PULSE SPOTLIGHT
Meet Akewushola Olanrewaju Uthman, popularly known as Yung Accountant, a graduating student of the Department of Industrial Relations and Personnel Management, Faculty of Management Sciences, University of Ilorin, and the outgoing 7th President of the Association of Industrial Relations and Personnel Management Students (AIRPERMS), University of Ilorin, for the 2025/2026 academic session.
With interests spanning Human Resources, compliance, youth development, media, leadership and community development, Akewushola’s university journey has been shaped by service, people and a desire to create opportunities for others.
Before becoming President of AIRPERMS, he served in several capacities, including a four-year Emirate Ambassador representing the Faculty of Management Sciences, the first AFEEDI Outreach Coordinator, Vice President of Outreach at AFEEDI, Financial Secretary of AIRPERMS, a member of the Students’ Representative Council and an SDGs Advocate. These experiences helped shape his belief that leadership is about being available, listening to people and creating meaningful opportunities.
🧭 HIS LEADERSHIP JOURNEY
For Akewushola, the decision to contest for the AIRPERMS presidency came from a combination of love for the association and a desire to contribute.
Having served in different capacities, he had seen both the strengths of AIRPERMS and areas where the association could improve. He wanted to use his experience to build an association where students could access not only academic support, but also mentorship, professional exposure, networking and opportunities for personal development.
Upon assuming office in July 2025, his administration prioritised academic development, professional exposure, mentorship, student engagement, welfare and continuity.
A major focus was encouraging students to think beyond their degrees and begin preparing early for the professional world.
Among the most memorable aspects of his tenure was seeing students genuinely engage with the programmes organised by the administration. From the Mentorship Train and Academics Train to the AIRPERMS Monthly Webinar, HR Day and THRIVE 2.0, seeing students learn, ask questions and connect with others became a significant part of the experience.
The creation of the AIRPERMS Alumni Channel was another initiative particularly meaningful to him. He wanted students and alumni to remain connected even after graduation, creating room for continued mentorship, networking and opportunities.
Leadership also came with its challenges. Managing different expectations, working with limited resources and balancing leadership responsibilities with academics and personal commitments required patience and adaptability.
Through these experiences, Akewushola learned to listen and understand different perspectives before responding. He also came to understand that leadership sometimes requires making decisions in the larger interest of the association, even when everyone may not agree.
🏆 ACHIEVEMENTS & IMPACT
Akewushola’s administration recorded several initiatives aimed at strengthening the academic, professional and social development of AIRPERMSITES.
Notable among them were the creation of the AIRPERMS Alumni Channel, strengthening of academic support, THRIVE 2.0, professional and industry engagement, and various student-centred programmes.
The AIRPERMS Alumni Channel stands out as one of the initiatives closest to him. Designed to connect current students with alumni, the platform provides an avenue for alumni to remain involved, share opportunities, mentor students and contribute to the continued growth of the association.
Academic development was also strengthened through initiatives such as the Mentorship Train, Academics Train and AIRPERMS Monthly Webinar, with an emphasis on making academic support more practical and accessible.

JAMB RESTORES ACCESS TO CAPS
Access to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) is gradually being restored. The “Access My CAPS” option on the JAMB e-Facility is now working, allowing candidates to access their admission-related details, including admission status, choice of institution and O’Level results.
The development is expected to allow admission related activities that were temporarily affected by the CAPS outage to gradually resume.
Recall that the “Access My CAPS” option stopped functioning earlier this week, with JAMB notifying candidates of the temporary disruption and its efforts to restore access.
Candidates are advised to keep checking their CAPS as the admission process continues.
We will keep monitoring developments, stay tuned for further updates.
