28 June 1940: Romania yields to a Soviet ultimatum, evacuating Bessarabia and northern Bukovina as Red Army troops move in to occupy the territories. The rapid collapse of France days earlier on June 22 directly triggered the Soviet action, as it shattered the French security guarantee that Romania relied upon At this point, the communist Soviets were still allied with Nazi Germany. #History #OTD #ad https://t.co/P5KIdVdbHn

I love all of the buntings, but the Lazuli is my favorite. I'll never forget quietly gasping at that color the first time I saw one. I caught this one late in the day with a little sideways sunlight. A couple of twigs painted shadows that almost look like field marks. #birds

As #PollinatorWeek comes to a close, we’re reminded that small actions can make a big difference. Whether it’s creating pollinator habitat on utility corridors or planting native flowers at home, everyone can help support pollinators. Together, we’re helping create healthier ecosystems for future generations. What pollinators have you spotted this summer? Share a photo of your favourite pollinator or native flower in the comments.
27 June 1943 | A Polish boy was born in the women camp at Auschwitz II-Birkenau. His name was Jerzy Homik. This is the first case recorded in camp documents, that a child was born in Auschwitz outside the Roma family camp registry. He received number 155909.
Jerzy Homik was taken away from his mother and transferred from the camp on 19 January 1944 to an unknown place. His mother, Stefania Homik (no. 29592), lived to see the liberation in Auschwitz.
He came in 2 days ago very sick and abandoned. I asked for name suggestions.
In the end not even in doubt... Rod Stewart.
As an added bonus Skye has latched onto him and they are best friends and inseparable ❤️
On 26 June 1945 in San Francisco, 50 countries signed the @UN Charter, excluding Poland—due to pressure from Stalin. The Polish flag was missing in the debating hall. "A new organization founded on peace, prosperity & human rights" was created, with justice & decency laid aside.
Little Espresso was indeed poisoned. We also now believe she broke a rid when a local tried to save her with CPR.
11 days later we finally have a little smile and some tail wagging. It's the first day I see some big hope for her. So so tough on her
History, maps, and borders: Economic map of Bessarabia and the Moldavian ASSR, 1939 (published by the Russian NKVD before the Soviet Ultimatum to Romania of June 1940)
Bessarabia was a Romanian-language territory annexed by the Russian Empire in 1812. The region became an independent state in 1917 as the Moldavian Democratic Republic, and the new state joined Romania in 1918.
On June 26, 1940, the Soviet Union presented an ultimatum to Romania demanding the immediate evacuation of the Romanian military and civil administration from the territories of Bessarabia and the northern part of Bukovina. The text of the ultimatum note incorrectly stated that Bessarabia was predominantly populated by Ukrainians.

@SpragueFoods I’m going to “brag about Sprague” 😁 Today’s lunch was delicious, as has each product (tomato, butternut squash, lentil, baked beans, triple bean chili) I’ve tried and can’t wait to taste test others! #LocallyDelicious
A thriving pollinator habitat starts with native plants. 🌱
In suitable areas, and with guidance from environmental experts, we've established pollinator habitats across our transmission corridors. Native wildflowers provide nectar and pollen all season long, supporting the pollinators that have evolved alongside them. Species like milkweed, black-eyed Susan, bergamot, and goldenrod help keep these habitats buzzing from spring to fall.
