Today's Current Generation of students learning to Generate Current to solve real problems-Generating Current & momentum for a STEM/STEAM movement in education.
Inspired by last year’s case ideation session, @MonctonHighScho students making lights for connections who are living in light poverty.1hr a day, every school day for a whole semester. I can’t wait to see what they produce. @brilliant_labs @ASD_West
Playing w EL wire to make an creative invitation. Attendees to a conference placed their hand on a pressure switch that triggers a light that illuminates the pamphlets. What a great way to start the year. @brilliant_labs @AnglophoneEast
Walking through downtown w the fancy silkscreened shirts sparked a conversation w a random person who happened be the assistant to the mayor. He came to specifically visit us. @AnglophoneEast @brilliant_labs
Arriving and setting up at CWSF in Edmonton. The two projects make for a crowded booth, but it’s not too bad for some high school kids in the middle of the exhibit floor w the pros. @brilliant_labs@lasg_research @AnglophoneEast
A late evening preparing for CWSF including silkscreening shirts (thx DNASwag), making posters, packing soldering irons. Ready to represent #nbed and @AnglophoneEast on a national scale. Thx @brilliant_labs
Bonding over soldering. “This is amazing! I never knew I could do it. This is the best day! “ “I love how the solder liquifies, wicks and solidifies”. “Note I can fix things” @brilliant_labs @AnglophoneEast
Thank you to @APEGNB_AIGNB for helping us practice pitches in both official languages. A chance to step outside the security of a practiced classroom speech to the impromptu of a real world conversation. CWSF here we come! @brilliant_labs @AnglophoneEast
The soldering station @brilliant_labs Innovation Fair was busy all day, Even as buses were loading to go home, there were still lots of robot name tags being made. I wonder how many lights we will make at the Canada Wide Science Fair next week? @AnglophoneEast
We had the opportunity to show our @brilliant_labs projects at the Innovation Fair yesterday! Students were able to explain their designs and their learning to other students from across Atlantic Canada! They were also able to learn from others. What a fantastic day!
The poster session was a hit! Lots of people at the booth asking great questions and comments about taking the idea of “learning for purpose” back to their schools. #teachsdg#nbed @AnglophoneEast @brilliant_labs
We are @NSTA , doing a workshop on how to solder lights for our friends around the world living in light poverty. Seems like a big hit. Learning to do something that helps others is awesome! #teachsdg @AnglophoneEast @brilliant_labs
So proud that she made a light. Someone who would not speak out loud in front of the group spoke confidently this week. She made a light, we made a break through in a refugee new comer’s life. @brilliant_labs #teachsdg @Eng_Bright
Last week it was fun seeing the reaction of two female refugee newcomers. After a night of soldering, there was surprise, a large smile and a yell,” I’m smart !” This week she took it with her everywhere. With this new confidence in making, she’s looking to produce winter hijabs.
Current Generation kids helping recent refugee new comers walk through design thinking process to redesign a light case for those living in light poverty. @AnglophoneEast @brilliant_labs @VarkeyFdn
