Hey all
Sorry for the radio silence from us. All of us have day jobs/lives that have gotten very busy recently, so we've decided to be all European and take a Summer hiatus.
Hope to be back later this year with new episodes!
I made a browser extension that changes the word “billionaire” to “oligarch” and, well, it’s about as perfect as I was hoping.

This type of deliberate misinformation is only going to get worse and worse until even family and friends are asking you about "the costs" of net zero over drinks. Great thread here from @DrSimEvans 👇👀👏
So glad this thread has gone viral. Jack's done some brilliant research here. And is the first person to note that whilst basics have risen over 140%, high-end ready meals have stayed the same? Thus disproportionately affecting low-income families.

Would be happy to pitch in to the cost of care if it wasn't *checks notes* A FLAT TAX THAT COSTS SOMEONE ON THE POVERTY LINE £100 P/A WHAT IN HOT NEOLIBERAL HELL IS THIS.
The answer exists - free social care on the NHS + progressive taxation (...pending overthrow of the system)
No one gives a shit that Boris Johnson has broken a manifesto pledge on tax.
People think that funding social care is important, and they'll accept an unfair way to pay for it *unless* someone makes the case for a better alternative.
I'm actually one of the ppl working on climate change, inequality, and central banks who argues for fiscal policy and wider regulation take a leading role.
But this article by @MerrynSW really needs a bit more thinking through...

From 2015 to 2018 global profit shifting has increased by more than $300Bn.
To our surprise the estimated amount of profits shifted to tax havens has remained remarkably constant at roughly 40% of multinational profits and 10% of global profits throughout 2015-2018. (4/5)
🚨Updated estimate: Multinational firms shifted $946Bn to tax havens in 2018🚨
That's almost 40% of multinational profits.

@Lenny_P_Cover@j57mehta@balbecdaze@davidschneider Celebrating we achieved the low hanging fruit (e.g. transition from coal to gas), and being "slightly less terrible" than similarly failing nations, achieves little.
Until we are on course for net zero by 2030 or soon after, we shouldn't let up on the criticism and pressure.
