OK, so I've had a lot of questions about Chinese Car Warranties - so I am going to do a review of each manufacturer over a few weeks to see how they stack up to their claims.
MG is another company that claims a 7 year warranty and their website proudly states "All models - 7 year factory warranty (from 01.09.2019)".
Whilst this is true for most parts, there are some limitations. The following parts are only covered for 3 years or 45,000 miles:
• Wheel Bearings.
• Ball Joints.
• Track Rod Ends.
• Dampers & Struts.
• Rubber Components.
• Infotainment system.
Then there are some parts covered for 3 years or 60,000 miles.
• The EV Charging Door is covered for 12 months for cars registered before 01/01/25 and 3 years or 60,000 miles for cars registered after this.
• Paintwork warranty is 3 years or 60,000 miles.
• Catalytic Convertors is 12 months for cars registered before 01/01/25 or 3 years or 60,000 miles on or after.
• Drive Belts are also only covered for 3 years or 60,000 miles. (Quite a big one as this can cause your whole engine to be kaput).
Clutch:
• The Clutch Components are covered for 2 years or 30,000 miles.
Hire or Reward Limits:
• Petrol MG's used for Hire or Reward are covered for 12 months or 20,000 miles.
• EV & Hybrid MG's used for Hire or Reward are (interestingly) covered for 3 year or 60,000 miles if they're registered before 22/03/2024 or 3 years or 80,000 miles if registered on or after this date. (You also have to inform MG that you are using your car for hire or reward or your warranty could be void).
Recovery:
• All MG's come with 1 years AA cover and then recovery is only given if you have your car serviced at MG.
Battery:
• The 12v Battery is covered for 12 months with a max claim of £150.
• The EV battery is covered for 8 years or 100,000 miles upto 70% of its capacity.
Tollerance:
• In order to maintain your warranty you must service the car in line with the Manufacturers recommendations and parts within 28 days or 1000 miles of it becoming due.
• Obviously there are quite a few serviceable items that have lower limits too but I haven't mentioned them as I would be here all day.
My thoughts:
In some ways the MG offering is similar to Jaecoo/Omoda/Chery in that they advertise a 7 year warranty, but there are limitations. However, MG don't advertise the 7 year warranty quite so heavily as the above mentioned (who mention it no fewer than 5 times on their warranty page).
They also don't exclude bigger ticket items like Alternators, Fuel Pumps, Oil Pumps, Starter Motors, A/C Compressor or Window Regulators from their limited 3 year cover, so in that way they are better.
However the Recovery is less, unless you have it serviced at MG and in general it's quite a complicated warranty document.
I still think the advertising standards authority should look at both Jaecoo and MG, as here are two companies proudly saying 7 years warranty, but frankly there are a lot of parts not covered for 7 years that a consumer could fall foul of.
One of my team has bought a Temu Range Rover! It’s been back to Temu for 4 weeks as its infotainment system doesn’t work properly. They can’t fix it, now he’s looking at rejecting it! Does anyone else have any or heard of any reliability issues with Chinese cars?
After a long, wet winter, spring has finally arrived and there’s even more to celebrate. For the first time ever, BBC Springwatch is coming from Northern Ireland, showcasing the wildlife across the country.

This door in Westminster Abbey is older than most modern nation-states. Made in the 1050s from an English oak, it's the only surviving Anglo-Saxon door in Britain.

Up on the Cooley Peninsula, Co Louth today and walked the new greenway between Newry and Omeath. The first greenway linking Northern and Southern Ireland, it is unique in having water on both sides for much of the route. If in the area, it is well worth giving it a go.
“The world is being destroyed by a handful of tyrants.” The Pope again criticized Trump’s policies
During a visit to Cameroon, he condemned wars and the use of religion in politics without naming the US president directly.
“Woe to those who distort religion… Commanders pretend not to know that it takes only a moment to destroy,” he said.
The Pope has previously criticized US military policy, while Trump has called him “a prisoner of the left.”
Going to talk useless stuff about my golf.

It gave me tremendous joy watching Rory McIlroy compete at Augusta. What pleases me greatly, on a personal level, is the dedication he has shown to his fitness throughout his career. I have always believed that discipline in the gym translates directly to longevity and performance on the golf course. To see a man of similar stature commit himself so fully to strength and conditioning, and then perform at this level year after year, is deeply satisfying. Yes, his power off the tee is a tremendous advantage, but make no mistake, he won this championship with his putting. That is where tournaments are decided, and Rory rose to the occasion beautifully on the greens when it mattered most. It was also wonderful to see Scottie make such a spirited charge, and Justin Rose once again gave himself a real opportunity. That is the beauty of golf, experience and determination can never be underestimated. The tournament itself was thrilling, but what touched me most was seeing Rory’s family there supporting him. Moments like that remind us what truly matters. And what I admired above all was how much he appreciated the victory. Enthusiasm is one of the great secrets to life and to success. Congratulations on back-to-back Masters victories, Rory. I wish you continued health, happiness and many more major championships to come. GP
