Has anyone seen a resource that compares SRES emissions scenarios (A2, B2) etc to RCP emissions scenarios (RCP4.5, RCP 8.5 etc)? It's tricky comparing older papers to newer papers that use these two different frameworks
@gmitch_ecology Do you know if song sparrows eat dandelion seeds? Or put the fluff in their nests? I was watching them this morning and wondering what they were up to.
Any tips on where to find day of snow melt data for northern Canada 1994-2019? This ORNL dataset using MODIS is good, but it only reaches back to 2001. https://t.co/VZIfwcqli1
@Rhiannon_Kirton I had the same thought and then decided I just wasn't willing to do it. I'm planning to keep working in the wildlife field, but I've essentially written off academia 'cuz I'm not willing to move all over the place. I'm going to make it work somehow. We'll see what happens!
I think one super inspiring side effect of the pandemic is since southern scientists can't go north to do research, more $$ is being devoted to building capacity of northerners to take charge of northern research. I've heard about plans in the works from both ECCC and ArcticNet.

@aande763 Yes, which is why I feel weird that my half-baked mess of a preliminary analysis is buried in there 😅 I figure the archeologists of 2894 will misinterpret it anyways so it's ok
What?? I backup the code for my thesis on github. Got a notification this AM that I contributed to the "Arctic Code Vault". Apparently this means my publicly available code was stored in an abandoned coal mine on Svalbard on a roll of film, down the way from the Global Seed Vault
I'm trying to figure out how older SRES Climate scenarios A2 and B2 compare to newer SSP Climate scenarios 126, 245, 370, 585. Specifically, which 2 are most similar to A2 and B2. Anyone have any leads on where to find this information?
@rolandasteenweg Thanks! I'm planning to use this in a presentation where I'm discussing species distribution modelling. I want to add some historical context about how representations have changed over time
I'm trying to find the oldest bird distribution map I can. In my old books, I found one from the 70s. Got any old garage-sale bird guides you'd be willing to check out for me?
@RebekahPersad Congrats on finding a masters program! You were still searching the last time I saw you, glad things worked out. So where would I see a flying squirrel?? Are they in Ontario?
@lawyer4Earth @ParvatiOfficial @parvati I can't speak for the circumpolar arctic, but in the Canadian Arctic, I'd suggest that you could consult with Inuit Tapiriit Kanatami @ITK_CanadaInuit
I stumbled onto the website of @Parvati Marine Arctic Peace Sanctuary, and it makes me super uncomfortable that they don't show any indication of interacting with any of the local or indigenous groups who's territory they propose restricting #signMAPS#maybenot?
@lawyer4Earth @ParvatiOfficial @parvati UNDRIP: consult and cooperate in good faith with the indigenous peoples concerned through their own representative institutions in order to obtain their free, prior and informed consent before adopting and implementing legislative or administrative measures that may affect them.
