Trauma brings emotional darkness and aloneness because it feels like no one cares and no one could possibly understand. When we are heard by someone who seeks to understand and feel with us, we are no longer isolated and alone in our suffering.
Humility isn't as salacious as unbridled rage, self-righteousness, pride, and hubris, but it's far more counter-cultural.
"Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves." - Philippians 2:3b
If you're here ranting or re-ranting, maybe consider removing the log in your own eye before you try to pluck the splinter out of the world's eye.
It's literally impossible without humility.
What do you keep hidden?
Maybe it’s the stack of papers you swoop out of sight when people come over, a mistake you made at work, something you’re embarrassed about, or the number of hours you serve at church.

NEW POST: It was a simple question...a question that would flood my world with the light I needed to finally start to see things clearly.

It's not an accident that we don't trust our own instincts. Churches & whole cultures train us to trust our leaders over our own instincts & whispers of the Holy Spirit. We must take responsibility & stop explaining away the things that are right before our eyes. #spiritualabuse
Our first home was built in the early 1900s with plaster and lath walls, a coal fireplace, and all kinds of character. But with the lights off, sunlight streamed through tiny cracks around the fireplace from settling that had taken place years before.
It is my honor to be a part of this beautiful mission to serve those who've experienced the heartbreak of spiritual abuse. I am beyond grateful for the One who tends the brokenhearted with gentleness and kindness. https://t.co/0sEOkjQTuJ

The last week has held so many emotions and my body has felt them all. Grateful for the #restore2022 conference, for goodness and light in dark places, and for the gifts of beauty and presence wrapped around this day.
