The best pop song about the Crucifixion? All in thirds: the triptych in which we contemplate the 3 crosses, song in 3 parts with 3-part aural structure of vocal going from L to R before resolving in full stereo. Though the the sun's eclipse seems final, Surely He will rise again!
Something almost sinister about this album. The folk horror cover, the threat that the Magical Mystery Tour is taking you against your will, I am the Walrus fever dream, Greensleeves in the All You Need is Love fadeout. Wtf guys
The Medici family, a tale of Medieval social mobility:
-13th century: Family from a rural physician background ('Medici' = 'Medicine').
-Family turns to trade and does quite well for itself.
-Does so well that Giovanni de' Medici (1360β1429) founds a bank in Florence.
-His son, Cosimo, uses the family wealth to become the de-facto ruler of the Florentine Republic.
-Cosimo's political machine makes sure Florence continues to be ruled by his son and grandson.
-His grandson, Lorenzo the Magnificent (1449β1492), gets his own son appointed Cardinal; he will rise to be the next Pope, Leo X (the Pope who excommunicated Luther).
-After Leo X's death (and some other guy), Lorenzo's nephew becomes the next Pope, Clement VII (the Pope who vetoed Henry VIII's divorce, causing the foundation of the Church of England).
-Pope Clement VII uses his wealth and influence to arrange a marriage between Catherine de' Medici (Lorenzo's great-granddaughter) and the son of King Francis I of France.
-Francis dies, Catherine de' Medici becomes Queen of France (from 1547 to 1559), and mother of French kings Francis II, Charles IX, and Henry III.
- The Medici lines continue to rule France, the most powerfull European Monarchy.
(Until it was abolished)
Andrew arrested & 'commentators' are shrieking that it's the end of the monarchy, as if a Duke of York has never brought shame on their family or plunged the country into strife & turmoil
