The amount of money the United States has spent on war in the last 67 days, is roughly the same cost that Bernie Sanders proposed for universal college. So the real question is never can we afford it, it's what we choose to prioritize.
i actually think "surface-level" friendships are very healthy. not everyone in your life has to be your ride-or-die. some friends are for the gym. some friends are for church. some are just for complaining about work or bureaucracy. when you stop expecting everyone to be your everything, the disappointment disappears. the deep conversations are for the 2-3 people closest to you.
A lot of people are under the mistaken impression that progress means advances in tech. Real progress is kids who are literate, free meals for public school students, a culture in which human art & poetry are celebrated. We're regressing rapidly & the only way forward is to read.

UNPOPULAR OPINION: A lot of "mental health issues" disappear when bills are paid, rent is secure, and the fridge is full. Peace is expensive. And pretending money doesn't affect mental health is privilege.
