I am thrilled to share that I have been named co-winner of MESA’s Malcolm H. Kerr Dissertation Award in the Humanities. I am deeply grateful for this international recognition.

I was lucky to have Prof. Cengiz Kırlı, Prof. Nadir Özbek, Prof. Gülhan Balsoy, Assoc. Prof. Irmak Ertör, and Assoc. Prof. Faisal Husain on my dissertation committee. A heartfelt thanks to all of them for the time, care, and intellectual effort they have invested in me. I cannot express how happy I am to share this recognition with my advisor, Cengiz Hoca (@ckirli). This recognition is truly his as much as it is mine, as his intellectual generosity, distinctive way of teaching, and guidance have shaped every stage of my PhD journey. And I am grateful to my mother Ayfer, my partner Kerem, and my daughter Defne for their love, support, and care.

This news arrived at a moment when my faith in academia has been wavering. I take it as a simple reminder to keep going — to keep thinking and writing in the ways that matter to me, even when the times make that increasingly hard.

işin içine toplumsal cinsiyet giriyor bence :) Türkiye akademyasında genelde erkekler kadın akademisyenlere “hanım” derler yetkinlik tanımak istemediklerinde, zira “hoca”nın defaultu erkektir. Siz o hiyerarşiyi “bey” diyerek terse çevirmişsiniz. Rahatsızlık bu hiyerarşik kodda yatıyor 😀
