Rights of Nature must be breaking through to the mainstream, as here we have a commentator in the Financial Times being deployed in a lame attempt to mock the concept using hackneyed straw man arguments.
No @FinancialTimes, rivers or any other part of nature wouldn’t be given the same rights as humans, that would be silly. Nature has different needs & would therefore receive different rights.
No @FinancialTimes, it’s not ridiculous for rivers or any non-human to have ‘legal personality’. Your entire worldview is based on be idea of companies (entirely fictitious entities we just made up in the 19th century) having legal personality. At least my river actually exists.
No @FinancialTimes, entirely human-centred laws & regulations won’t be enough to save our rivers. We’ve had those for the last 60 years & they have clearly failed to even stop raw sewage entering our rivers, let alone restoring them to full ecological health & beauty.
No @FinancialTimes, having a moral, philosophical worldview to back up political arguments is “cockeyed”, it’s what every great political shift and extension of rights has had, from the abolition of the slave trade, to universal suffrage & votes for women, to animal rights.
Bravo @HerefordshireWT & @toby_wildlife for showing the worth of traditional orchards. Here in Cambs we are lucky to have Coton Orchard, similarly recognised by @wildlifebcn, yet @CambsCC would drive a busway through it. If we care for such places, we must defend them ✊🏻🤨🌳🚌❌ ✏️ https://t.co/v8AMlb7srl
The Judge said (Para 173 of the #Heybeck Judgement):
'There was a serious want of transparency in the period leading to the decision challenged, while the developer and the LPA were negotiating with each other and shielding the product of their negotiations from the public'
This is horrifying.
The government are so set on the Heathrow second run way that they don't care how what they are doing will impact on other things.
Lobbyists are running this country.

More Sizewell C destruction- please share
100yr+ old oaks are about to be felled by Sizewell C, this time along the B1125. Good to see Radio Suffolk taking an interest in local worries Listen at 1.39-1.47 https://t.co/6oKt2UEnhT
We did it! Planning Permission quashed. A victory to inspire all local campaign groups fighting to protect wildlife habitat. A reckless approach to planning policy has resulted in Permission being overturned @CommunityPlann1@ChrisGPackham@CarlBovisNature

A decade lost, £millions squandered, and now the final 1.6 miles. Whether turtle doves and martins have a home to return to next spring – and whether we leave a liveable planet for the next generation – hangs on the Public Inquiry starting *16th September 2025* and the final decision of @Heidi_Labour.
This will set a precedent for how our county grows, consequences rippling across the landscape.
If you haven’t yet added your name to the 23,000-strong petition, now is the time. If you have, share it widely. Challenge the untruths. Speak up. Bear witness at the inquiry. Support @CambridgePPF + @CotonBusway, and remember the human, weary people behind these profiles.
And to the press, who have been brilliant so far: shine your light even brighter. Do not let this pass in the shadows @thetimes@adamvaughan_uk@guardian@horton_official@patrick_barkham@PaddyGalbraith@PrivateEyeNews

#BalticWharf has only nine hardstanding caravan pitches. This is badly-needed harbourside greenspace, NOT brownfield. The site will cost £45,000 to clear, not £2.4 million for brownfield decontamination. The grant from Brownfield Land Release fund looks well dodgy.
The County has spent £18m+ to defend the GCP route for the CtoC busway. Their “proof of evidence” is now online. Under “interested parties” you’ll find experts and residents who unravel the spin 👉 https://t.co/rBngDv7jKf
